The Clippers did not look like a veteran team in the final minutes against the Spurs. A lot of crucial mistakes. Meanwhile, the effort level of the Spurs was fantastic. And hearing Wemby post-game: that dude verges on Kobe/Jordan level of competitiveness. He care so damn much.

Geez, because the Venezuela operation was effectively a kidnaping, which is nowhere close the complexity of actually going to war with a country (not that kidnaping is easy, of course).

She opened for Miki Berenyi Trio here in the U.S. recently. Due to visa bullshit, she was without her band when they played here in Chicago. And it was still great -- she's so captivating (and the MB3 backed her on two songs). I dig her two solo LPs so much.

@gdwessel.bsky.social This is unexpected: Depeche Mode covering Donovan. I'm listening to the new War Child HELP(2) benefit album, and right now, DM is doing Mr. Leitch's "Universal Soldier". While I'm 99% certain you're aware of this, if there's a 1% chance you aren't, now you are.

For the complaining about how the OKC Thunder foul on every play, New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet does foul on every play. He puts both arms in the chest of whomever he's guarding and I'm baffled why the referees have given him immunity from handchecking.

The entire anti-trans care grift is built in treating the usual way medicine works as if it's a scandal.

Therapists figure out if a kid is trans the same way they figure out if they're depressed. They ask questions, maybe using a formal scale to quantify how kids compare to similar kids.

I'm stunned that was called a common foul on the floor. I think the Jayhawks player tried to block the shot, but wound up and yanked the guy's arm while he was in the air. It looked bad in real time and worse on replay.

SCOTUS has denied cert. in Thaler v. Perlmutter. That means that outputs generated by AI will continue to be ineligible for copyright protection under US law.

This is welcome news for musicians!

Press gave Biden far worse coverage for a small number of American soldiers dying while leaving a war than to Trump for a similar number dying while starting a war for no reason. It makes you think!

It's a constant in the Peanuts comic strip that Snoopy's purple prose racks up rejection after rejection, but I feel like a diligent literary agent could sell even a terrible novel written by a dog, if only for novelty's sake.

Now, a SECOND book...

Are there any stats on: 1) the number of behind the back passes in NHL games that result in turnovers, and, 2) the number of no-look behind the back passes that result in turnovers. Watching the NHL, it seems like more often that not, if try a clever pass behind you, it fails.

On The Offsprings debut album, which came out in 1989, there’s a song called Teheran. During Desert Storm they switched it to having the exact same words but now it’s Baghdad, then it went back to Teheran, then back to Baghdad, and I guess we’re back to Teheran again

I have no problem with the Flagrant 2 on Dort, and think they don't call enough Flagrant 2s. I don't know if the "too close to the knee reason" is what'd I'd say. I think it was just such an obvious intentional bullshit play that Dort didn't deserve to stay in the game.

Oh, that was a misprint. It was supposed to be "chet-inspired menus." Inspired by Chet Atkins, Chet Holmgren, Chet Lemon, Chet Huntley, Chet Baker (anything he inspired is positively addictive), and others.

A few music things:

The new Jill Scott album is amazing. Eleven years since her last album, and she sounds as good (if not better) than ever.

Meanwhile, The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis pick up where their first LP left off.

And cootie catcher is soooo cute. Like the new LP a lot.
