For more than a century anatomical maps divide the #brain into regions according to structural variations in the tissue. But do these divisions really reflect how the brain works? A new study on mice from @ki.se suggests that this is often not the case #research #neuroscience

Men speglar ...

It's out! Our new study (led by @pierrelemerre.bsky.social & @weltgeischt.bsky.social @carlenlab.bsky.social) challenges classical cytoarchitectonic borders in the prefrontal cortex, showing that connectivity better explains its functional organization.

A prefrontal cortex map based on single-neuron activity - Nature Neuroscience The authors mapped spontaneous and choice activity across mouse prefrontal cortex. The activity maps aligned with intrinsic connectivity rather than anatomical subregions, suggesting that connectivity...

Main postdoc study out! We can redefine prefrontal cortex regions with single-unit activity! Grateful to @carlenlab.bsky.social and @weltgeischt.bsky.social who made this crazy project real. Thanks to all co-authors, collaborators, and reviewers.

Happy birthday to us! 🥳

In 2003, we launched with just four employees in a small, rented laboratory working together towards a big goal - map the entire mammalian brain in a way the world had never seen.

First Patient Treated with Personalized CRISPR Therapy, Developed in Just Six Months The first on-demand CRISPR therapy for an infant with a rare metabolic disease developed by the IGI and collaborators around the world.

This is what can be achieved today due to longstanding federal support of academic basic science alongside close partnership of universities, private industry and NIH intramural initiatives. An ecosystem worth not just saving but doubling down on!
