It’s odd that the religious right is so upset about a halftime show that celebrated marriage, love, community, small business, hard work, and family. 🤔

i think it is ok to reiterate that the victim as a us citizen. yes, noncitizens are equally entitled to human rights. but also, it's important to illustrate how ice isn't about immigration at all
So proud of our little church following Jesus to the picket line to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly
Federal officers pepper ball protestors at Portland ICE facility just now.
The whimsy and joy of Portland vs. the cruelty of the icicles. Love wins
When our Christianity makes the ultra wealthy and powerful feel safe and supported and the poor and powerless feel unsafe and unsupported, that is when we can be sure we are following someone other than Jesus.
Even Maisy the eyeless Frenchie can see we have been reading the Bible through the wrong lenses for decades. That’s why we are so excited that @zachwlambert.bsky.social book comes out today! it’s time for us to refocus!
It’s such a harmful Christian theology that looks at wars and famine and says, “this might be the fulfillment of End Times prophecies!” and “Jesus might be retuning soon!” instead of “look at how much people are suffering!” and “how can we stop this injustice?”
Picture of quote from W.E.B. DuBois's Black Reconstruction in America. "When the Confederates returned to domination, the public schools, which had attained a degree of efficiency never before reached in the South, were greatly curtailed. One hundred and ten of the teachers, many of them native-born, were dismissed at once, and their places were filled with intolerate Confederates."
W.E.B. Du Bois on the white takeover of southern public schools after Reconstruction. Not a coincidence that the chapter, "Back Towards Slavery," follows his analysis of the eventual dedegration of the public school system. Attacks on education are vital to (re)instituting authoritarian rule.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” -Theodore Roosevelt

We stand with Maisy. We are all misfits in need of mercy.

Becoming an LGBTQIA affirming church may have been financially crushing to our church as people left with their tithes in protest, but it was the right thing to do and has brought us countless opportunities for community connection and to serve our neighbors. Choosing love is always worth it.
This is Maisy.Greed and capitalism said she was worthless because she wasn’t perfect. But love found her and now she is happy and healthy, living a great puppy life and bringing joy to all who know her. She doesn’t need eyes to see love changes everything.
