We welcome plans for statutory guidance for local authorities supporting children in families with #NRPF under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989. This must come from @departmentforedu.bsky.social not the @ukhomeoffice.bsky.social. It must centre the welfare of the child.
www.gov.uk/government/p...
The strategy will lift other children out of poverty, but the governmentβs proposed plans to increase the time migrants have to wait to gain settlement, will push thousands more children with NRPF in to deep long-lasting poverty. Write to your MP, end #NRPF β¬οΈβοΈ

The government released their 10 year strategy to tackle child poverty in the UK. We welcome that #NRPF is mentioned in it, but it shows a failure to end the condition, which leaves thousands of migrant children homeless and destitute β¬οΈπ½οΈ

Today's Child Poverty Strategy leaves thousands of migrant children - 40% of all children in poverty - out in the cold.
Every child deserves the same chance to thrive.
Poverty is a political choice. The Govt's failure to act for all children falls short of the scale and urgency of the crisis.
"Ending the two-child limit is vital, but you cannot end child poverty while excluding children from support because of their parents' immigration status. Every child deserves the same chance to thrive." @josephinewy.bsky.social

Thank you!
We have made an animation, to show how the 'No Recourse to Public Funds' immigration condition, has harmed our families:

Great to hear Rachel Reeves acknowledge that "there are many reasons why people choose to have children then find themselves in difficult times. The death of a partner. Separation. Ill health. A lost job. I donβt believe that children should bear the brunt of that."
So why should migrant children?
Our latest policy briefing on child poverty with Project 17 makes a clear recommendation: End #NRPF policies! Inadequate housing, food insecurity, lack of understanding children's experiences and emotional burdens are all consequences of bordering welfare.

Many of us have to pay Β£3908.50 per adult plus any solicitors fees, every 30 months, to renew our visas and pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Will you write to your MP to ask them to scrap the racist NHS charging policy?

"The consequences are as would be expected. We have to sacrifice paying for food, gas, electricity and other essential needs. Our mental and physical health is suffering greatly due to the immense pressure and heavy weight of the immigration fees."

We are very grateful to MP @kateosamormp.bsky.social
for submitting written questions to the Secretary of State for the Home Department in support of our campaign.
Migrants are living in extreme poverty due to immigration & health charging. This disproportionately affects racialised women.
We ask the government to equalise access to the NHS, and to treat everyone in the UK with dignity.
We ask the government to not discriminate as to who has the right to be healthy and safe, due to their background.

π’We believe that charging migrants to use the NHS, and for the Immigration Health Surcharge, is unjust and should be scrapped.
This policy is not humanely justifiable and leaves migrants in unsafe positions.

#NRPF must be scrapped. Our families are living in extreme poverty, plus high immigration costs & the rising cost of living. Our mental & physical health is greatly impacted.

π° Β£3,029. Thatβs what it costs to apply for permanent residency in the UK. The actual processing cost? Just Β£646.
Weβre calling for a fee waiver for those who canβt afford it. Email your MP today and ask them to back it.

The UK Home Office has increased visa fees again, which affects our members. This means we'll have even less money to buy things our children need.
@yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social @ukparliament.parliament.uk
To read about how this detrimentally impacts our families, see the links below:
NRPF causes generational trauma, and has a long term negative impact on children's health and development. All children should be treated equally and deserve to live healthy, happy lives.
#NRPF must be scrapped.

This film shows what many of our members with no recourse to public funds are going through. Our families are suffering with poor accommodation, black mould is causing our children to go to hospital, we are facing food poverty, and bad mental health.

We have all experienced the devastating effects of the #NRPF policy on our families. We stand in solidarity to make an impact, to try to improve the lives of children in the UK subjected to this condition. We will be raising awareness, so please keep an eye out for more info!
