Indie game developer fighting cancer. Designed Dan Dare 1+2 (ZX Spectrum), Warlocked (Game Boy Color) Surveillant (iOS), Separation (PSVR). My latest is Roguelite stealth & shooter 'Haus Of Klaus' (Meta Quest). A.K.A music producer Vector Lovers
Although I've now closed Recluse Industries Haus Of Klaus continues to be available and every sale will help me directly.
Looking for a great #VR game that runs on your old Quest 2? Also like to help an indie dev with cancer? www.meta.com/en-gb/experi...
Even if I hadn't been diagnosed with cancer last year, this would have happened for financial reasons. I just can't spend three years working on a game (even part-time) for it to sell only 48 downloads.
Two exhausted game devs up to their ankles in water, fill an overflowing bucket labelled "Games Market"
Recluse Industries Ltd has now ceased trading. I feel like the videogames market is fundamentally broken, oversaturated with content - like the music industry before it. No visibility without π΅π΅π΅
Shamefully bad for CPC. Straight up ZX conversion? Back in the day we knew the Amstrad could do way more graphically in terms of colours particularly...

skeletons and diamond-y shaped things are on the playing field. up the top is hi score, score and men left.

Cybercuck - typically, young male in thrall to techno utopian fetish and illusion of progress, as opposed to enslavement by technology.
I've long struggled with depression. I'd tell myself "you're lucky, others have it worse" and the dream of finally releasing a successful #indiegame sustained me through dark times.
Coping strategies that fail now I have terminal cancer.
Yet a ray of hope remains, for some kind of transcendence.
Unfortunately Separation never recouped even the modest costs of development and had to be abandoned.
It's PSVR 1 only. If you have a Quest 2 I can send you a code for my latest game, Haus Of Klaus.
Wanted one when I was a schoolboy. I get my vector (simulated) fix these days playing the awesome Utopia Must Fall.

My favourite Ultimate game was Knight Lore - the extra dimension was an impressive feat at the time (though Sandy White was first on the Spectrum to do isometric 3D with the incredible Ant Attack).
@greatestgames.bsky.social please check out this forgotten / lost gem for PSVR

I would love some rage-bait. At least it means somebody has noticed your game.
Typically, a reward involves either pleasure, or the avoidance of pain. How do you 'reward' something that has no feelings?
My hopes have rapidly gone from "release a successful indie game" to just "survive the year". Of course, be nice if they both came true π
Been a tough year. In January I was diagnosed with a terminal cancer caused by asbestos. I've been in hospital, unable to do #gamedev for a while. If you own a #meta Quest 2 or 3 every Haus Of Klaus sale helps this indie dev to keep on fighting another day. www.meta.com/experiences/...
Now I want screenshots, you tease.
A handful of Youtubers are beginning to discover Haus Of Klaus. As a solo #indiedev with no QA support its a great source of insights to be able to watch people play the game first time π

like my school days all over again, but without the swearing.
I can imagine. Better starting with the ZX-81, then upgrading to the beloved Spectrum.
Do you cover zero-budget solo indie VR games?
Some of the earliest gen art was not visual, but musical; "Musikalisches WΓΌrfelspiel" games were so popular in the 1700s, even Mozart wrote one! Guillermo Brachetta has created an online version so even without piano (or dice) you can listen to some of the waltzes Mozart's algorithm creates.
...and the origin of all hide n seek horror games - 3D Monster Maze!
Sinclair ZX81. 1K memory, monochrome graphics, no audio. My first experience of #gamedev β₯οΈ
After Defender that is ;-) Eugene Jarvis must've been on a roll.
That room is like a time capsule of my childhood. I remember so many of those... Astro Wars, Big Trak on the top shelf, Speak & Spell.
particularly when you spill it on the cassette player.
First console? Mine was a Grandstand Video Sports Centre. As an only child I had to play against myself - left vs right using both joysticks. I really wanted an Atari 2600 + Space Invaders, obviously.
Added a tougher sentry bot variant - the Riot Bot. Check out the latest update (0.4.9) of Haus Of Klaus, live on Meta Store now! #gamedev #indiegame #VR
