Peppered moray eels are well adapted to the intertidal zone. They can hunt both above & below the water’s surface using their keen senses of smell & sight, sometimes staying out of water for more than 30 seconds.

To achieve this kaleidoscopic effect, Simone reversed one of the six glass elements in an analogue lens. This distorted the image at the edges while leaving the centre sharply focused.

When fossil fuels such as the coal in this bag are burned, small particles called fly ash are released into the air. Crawford Lake’s sediments capture a dramatic increase in fly ash in the 1950s, coinciding with rapid industrialization locally and globally.

While on holiday in southern France, the photographer had been watching flamingos in the Camargue. She was fascinated by their foraging behaviour as they moved gracefully through the shallow, saline wetlands, filter feeding for molluscs and crustaceans.
