Looking forward to this!
Yep! I hope its an anomaly of the recent UKRI changes rather than the new reality.
Thanks! Yes. Iβm grateful to reviewers for at least being nice, because that feels like all I can hold on to!
Absolutely gutted by the recent UKRI MRC rejection, with review scores of 5,5, and 6 (out of 6).
I don't really know what we could have done. Hours of work by me, my co-leads, and importantly, our stakeholders, including parents, teachers and SENCOs.

The University College London will host the 2026 Child Language Symposium from July 6 to 7. They invite empirical, theoretical, or methodological work in a wide variety of areas revolving around language acquisition. Submissions are due February 10th. Read more here: www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/events/2...
Would have been good to have added an apology for the lack of comms so far this year, particularly for those that submitted grants to UKRI applicant-led funding streams in Sept 2025, as these are highly unlikely to be funded (www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-r...)
Of course all grants are competitive. But this is a serious change, and some advance comms would have changed the funding schemes I targeted.
I - and I am sure many others - poured hours into our grant application last summer. These are not straightforward applications involving one group, as there are many researchers, patients, families and educators involved .. Hearing this makes me feel all our time was wasted.
Some of us from the UK's Specific Learning Difficulties Network @sldnetwork.bsky.social have shared our views on the new Delphi definition of dyslexia onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/..., special thanks to Kinga Morsanyi @kmorsanyi.bsky.social for pulling it together so nicely!

We're looking for great students interested in language processing and cognitive development in fNIRS. We use HD-DOT / fNIRS and eyetracking to understand how infants develop. If interested see the scheme and please get in touch.
