E.g., I was looking for a contractor for a mid-sized project, and I just couldnβt bring myself to deal with a business that only has a Facebook page.
One of my personal biases is that I feel uncomfortable spending any significant amount of money at a business that doesnβt have a real website.
Need some fun music for your game or other creative project?

I definitely saw it in music school too. Not that people were actively mocking/deriding it at that stage, but the stigma prior to that level meant that the numbers were heavily skewed away from male singing.
The exact number seems questionable, but the (very) approximate ratio is quite consistent. And working with a male-identifying choir, I can honestly say itβs a very frequent problem to run into.
We have so many parents who say things along the lines of how their son canβt join because heβs not gay.
Update: I'll have to follow-up with my colleague on this one, because I can't corroborate it. I'm definitely seeing evidence that supports that male-identifying classical singers are heavily outnumbered, none of the studies or surveys I've found are repeating that 8% figure.
Unfortunately, as I'm just collating this part of the application and didn't do the research myself, I can't link the specific study here.
Once I have time later today I'll try to dig it up so I can share it directly.
Finishing up a grant application, and was just dumbfounded by this statistic:
Did you know that only 8% of the Western world's singers are tenors and basses? This isn't because they're rare voicetypes, but largely attributed to societal stigma against male singing.
That's just awful!
When that boss music kicks in...
