He was open-minded, listened, had an open door and helped me when I arrived in Oxford. As well as being a superb scholar.

David Hockney has a massive exhibition in Paris. Everything about his art and him makes me feel elated. Painting in his late eighties, smoking without apology, and free in his sexuality from the start.
Of course, one can go back six hundred years to mark such changes.
History has to be charted not in broad sweeps (five years is a very long time in politics) but with specific yearly changes and cogent developments. America is the perfect crucible to study this. So I disagree that it is only an “intensification”.
Post the Gaza war and the spread of global hyper-Nationalisms and the interventions and collaborations of governments with institutions makes the change over the past few years much more than the visibility of it.
It’s a far far wider persecution now than it was even a year ago.
