We offer acupuncture and relaxation therapy in English for foreign tourists who have come to Tanabe to walk the Kumano Kodo.

Nachi Waterfall to Hongu (Kumano Kodo) This route combines the Kumano-Nachi Taisha to Koguchi (16.1km) route and the Koguchi to Ukegawa (12.9km) route, for those wanting a big day (28km) out on the Kumano Kodo.

It links two shorter #kumanokodo trails for those based in Nachi wanting a big day out.

First bus gets to the trailhead for 7:15am, and last bus home from Hongu is at 7pm; leaving ample time.

This restaurant is an izakaya where you can enjoy a variety of Japanese dishes such as tempura, soba, yakiniku and other side dishes that go well with alcohol. The restaurant also has an English menu and
the friendly shop owner looks forward to welcoming you.

An izakaya located about a 3-minute walk from Kii-Tanabe Station. ("Izakaya" means "Japanese gastropub")

The tonkatsu sandwich containing plum jam and japanese herb has a refreshing aftertaste but also gives you energy, so it might be a good lunch for a hike.

Ryujin Village is about an hour's drive from Kii-Tanabe Station. It's off the Kumano Kodo trail, but a fascinating place with many legends. ( "Ryujin" means "dragon god.")

This cake shop is located in Ryujin Village.
Their Western-style sweets, made with local seasonal fruits and healthy ingredients, have a natural sweetness. Their puddings, made with specially selected eggs, are also popular.

It is located about a 10-minute walk from Kii-Tanabe Station, but because it is so popular, reservations are required for both lunch and dinner.

A popular Italian restaurant in Tanabe City. The pizza baked at 500 degrees is delicious. The exterior of the restaurant, which they painted themselves, is also beautiful.

“Oji” are subsidiary shrines of the Kumano Grand Shrines that line the Kumano Kodo to protect and guide pilgrims.

The exact location of Akizu Oji is unknown due to repeated river flooding, but there is a stone monument at what is thought to be the site.

~ Nishihacho Coffee Shop ~

This coffee stand sells its own roasted coffee and coffee beans. It is located near Akizu Oji, so it's a good idea to stop by when you're visiting the various Oji shrines in Tanabe city.

In Japan, we have "Mother's Day" in May and "Father's Day" in June.

A famous flower for Mother's Day is the carnation, but this year my daughter gave me a "Chinese peony."
