This is important. For years, Rs would not allow fair redistricting to even be voted on in committee.

"So letβs look back. Back to 2001 when the GOP gerrymandered Democrats in the House and Senate nearly to oblivion. When Mark Warner had just won a statewide election with 52% of the vote, but the House was drawn to a 64-34 Republican majority..." bluevirginia.us/2026/03/a-wa...

Ted Cruz Newsroom Press Releases Published:11.25.2025 Sens. Cruz, Cornyn File Amicus Brief Backing Texasβ Emergency Application to Implement New Congressional Map WASHINGTON, D.C. β U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action, and Federal Rights, and John Cornyn (R-Texas) filed an amicus brief in support of the State of Texasβ emergency application to the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay of the district court injunction that barred Texas from implementing its new congressional district map. The Senators did so in part on the basis of the Purcell principle, which holds that courts should not change election rules shortly before an election. Sen. Cruz said, βThe Constitution entrusts redistricting matters to the states and to state legislators. The federal district courtβs preliminary injunction was not made on the merits of the case, runs counter to precedent and to principles of federalism, and undermines the prerogatives of Texas lawmakers and the will of Texas voters. The Supreme Court should stay that preliminary injunction, and do so expeditiously in order to provide certainty in our election maps and rules as we approach deadlines for the 2026 election.β
Newsweek: Ted Cruz has proposed that Texas extend the state's Republican advantage in the U.S. House of Representatives to a full Democratic wipeout if Gavin Newsom goes ahead with a proposal to redraft congressional maps in his state in response to a similar plan by Republicans in Texas.
@tedcruz on X: A brazen abuse of power & an insult to democracy. 47% of VA voted Trump. They will now get just 9% of the seats. 52% of VA voters voted Harris. Now they get 91% of the seats. (By comparison, in TX, 56% voted Trump; GOP gets 79% of the seats.)

Like his Confederate forebears, Ted Cruz talked a big game, started a fight, got absolutely dog walked, then cried about how unfair it all was. A story in four images.
Or maybe the Hanover supervisors opposed it because of business interests, on the basis of zoning laws. The warehouse is near a Bass Pro Shop etc. Time will tell if they oppose in a different part of Hanover. Of course, now they know the kind of outcry they will be facing π

Thank you. Note to young people: that burning piece of paper is a draft card. The burning child referred to was Vietnamese.
Exactly thank you
As noted above - top headline in NYT
Itβs the top headline in the NYT (inbox ed.) this morning.
Hey Canada! The warehouse in Ashland VA that ICE is buying is owned by Jim Pattison Developments based in Vancouver.
Rob Wittman cannot and will not stand up for his constituents. Our communities, including ones in VA-01, are being threatened with the possibility of ICE buying a warehouse in VA-01 to house detainees.
We cannot allow Rob Wittman to continue to rob us of our civil rights. We must flip the first.
ICE is punishing Virginia for electing Democrats. Clearly we must take every opportunity to do more of the same.
Hopefully in a little less than 4 years the good sense exemplified by Spanberger will have devalued his stock further. Jennifer McClellan for Gov in 2030.

I love The New Yorker but this is a thin narrative.
Aides reading their lines: βWe struggle to keep up with him.β
βamplified his lies about the 2020 electionβ says the NYT about Stefanik and Trump, in a news article, not an opinion piece. Respect.
