Verge headlin: Meta won’t let morality get in the way of a product launch
by Sarah Jeong
"After months and months of ceaseless whining about the doxxing of ICE agents, there hasn’t been a single peep from Attorney General Pam Bondi about the future of facial recognition in Meta glasses."

Most programmers are taught that L1 is the “top level” cache on x86.
It’s not quite true anymore!
Intel calls it the Decoded Stream Buffer (DSB), AMD the OpCache.
Only enough room for ~4,000 micro-ops, but there are interesting ways to take advantage of it.

16807 is a very special number in Computer Science.
You can find it in the Playstation 5 (freebsd 11), almost every Mac Classic game, and even the C++11 standard!
Give it the right prime number, you can produce an evenly distributed sequence for over 2 BILLION values.

The smart lock standard that could replace your keys is finally here
Now we just need the locks
There’s just no AI device that can meaningfully step in for smartphones being this generalized www.theverge.com/tech/885002/...

Let's hope common sense prevails for some time atleast.
No discord user wants their face scanned from three sides by groups closely aligned with governments. I don't at least.

The amount of ecosystem change this handheld did will be remembered.
Sad that I don't own it yet but happy that it's doing good lol.

How Claude Code Claude Codes
On The Vergecast: vibe coding, AI safety, and RAM shortages.
I have become, sort of surprisingly, totally convinced that tools like Claude Code will change how we use tech. I've been learning and building a lot, and on today's Vergecast I asked Claude Code's Boris Cherny what it takes to make this stuff a lot easier to use www.theverge.com/podcast/8836...

Casinos. Slot machines. Sports betting apps.
Now it's dressed up as "forecasting."
It looks like data. Sounds like finance. Gets cited by journalists.

Elon Musk merges SpaceX with xAI (and X)
Musk is bringing more of his companies together.
Doing this so you can IPO and be forced to report out exactly how much money X is losing every quarter is very funny www.theverge.com/tech/872619/...

Absolutely!
Initially I was afraid to try them out simply because of their age (esp HL1), but the moment I jumped into that train inside Black Mesa I knew that it's something special.
Same thing with Portal inside the sleeping chamber with that radio.

That's cute :)
Here I'm playing this game for the first time being 20 y/o lol. Just finished Portal 1 last week and couldn't just stop myself to jump to the next part.
Now I'm about to finish Portal 2. Just finished first 5 levels of Chapter 8 (The Itch). I'm loving it all the way!

It's crazy how far Proton has come. Just ended Portal 1 a couple of days ago and the experience was awesome to say the least.
