Sunshine yellow flowers March 6, 2026. Daffodils/Jonquils/Narcissus, no matter what you call them they are joy in flower form. This clump near the road and driveway was started a few years ago with a few bulbs moved from a larger naturalized area. Maybe we can start a few new sites this year.
Spring is here when daffodils bloom no matter what the calendar says.

The two bay horses are just as bad. The 3 year old is actually worse as she likes to top off her field mud with a roll in the hay and bedding in her stall. Gives her that powdered sugar donut look.

Testing the close up ability on my new phone camera. I've definitely seen better from "real" cameras, but not bad for something I can always carry with me on the trail. This pale and flaky lichen growing on an old fence called to me. I answered. March 4, 2026.

Lichen on an old wooden fence. Cool spring colors shine on a cloudy day between rain and thunderstorms March 4, 2026. Pale green/blue/yellow/white radiates out from a center point like ruffly flower petals.
A different kind of spring flower. Likin' the lichen.

Gema was clean in the morning. Thoroughly brushed, saddled, and ridden a few minutes before being turned out in the pasture. She came in for supper looking quite different, covered in mud and leaves. Pinto Paso Fino mare enjoys what is in her red feed bucket in her stall. 2/25/26.
Mud season is here!

Bright green beginnings of daylilies March 1, 2026.
June 3, 2025 daylilies started blooming a showstopping orange highlighted with delicate yellow stripes down the center of the petals. Tons of unopened buds surround the day's star, waiting their turn to keep the whole month of June orange.
And the season begins. Daylilies just getting started this year and last year June 3 first bloom.

Red dead-nettle, Lamium purpureum? Spirit soared yesterday when I saw this starting to bloom behind the barn while bending over petting cats. Hard to take picture with three cats walking over it and shading the morning sun streaming over it. Spring comes!
First blooms of the year found yesterday!

The double daffodils growing wild under trees on a hill at the front corner of our 36 acres look to be first to bloom this year. They were a nice surprise the first spring after we bought the property nearly 20 years ago. There were so many of them that it was natural to move a few bulbs around to different spots so the whole farm comes alive with yellow in March in southern Indiana. No neat flowerbeds for these beauties. 2/28/26.
First daffodils of the season just days from opening.

Half moon nestles between bare winter tree limbs. Brilliant blue sky hosts a band of white cloud below and a wispy hint of a cloud above. It was so nice to see clear skies and sunshine yesterday after so many dreary winter days.

Large variety of yellow daffodil in bloom March 18, 2025. Miniatures bloomed a week earlier. Yesterday gloomy flannel gray skies all day with cold and wind reminded everyone it's still winter. Changing seasons keep the world interesting. Warm up begins today!!!
March last year. Only a few weeks away from sun, warmth, and daffodils!

Two brightly painted winged fish fly in the aloha room. Cold outside seems worse after a few days of warmth. No, it really is cold out with over 20mph wind making below freezing temps worse. Spring will come. Keep repeating that until it happens.

After lying awake into early morning, coffee comes late (for me) at 6:45am. Seems every other night sometimes sleep only settles in for 4-5 hours. Morning routine includes coffee in my red thermos, drunk from a tan and brown cup decorated with running horses that my mother gave me 30 years ago. Blue water thermos behind on black and white granite countertop gives some color to my start of day.
Late start to my morning.

Daffodil leaves pop up amidst last year's fallen tree leaves February 18, 2026. They can handle the frosty nights down to around 20F/-6C forecast over the next few days. Then spring will come with four or five different types of daffodils as first homesite bloomers 3-4 weeks out.
Daffodils have a few more freezing nights to get through, but they are on their way to spring blooms!

Amelia the gray tabby cat shares some brief warm weather deck time February 19, 2026. Fluffy white clouds float in a blue sky silhouetting still bare trees above brown winter grass. After two days around 70F/21C a storm rolled through overnight bringing more seasonable temps for the next week. But spring peepers know the season is changing!

Can't seem to get enough of these beautiful sunrise moments. While everything else outside is dull and drooping, clouds and sun team up with a brief burst of amazing oranges, pinks, yellow and blue to get me going in the morning.
