I just blocked two people who were like “we need to see the bodies of blown up children for people to get how serious this is,” and as a former human rights lawyer I cannot tell you how wrong that is.

Do not inflict bystander trauma on people. It will make them shut down and go numb, not wake up.

A scene from the dtama: a woman, wearing an elaborate traditional Chinese red robe and ornate gold headdress, poses against a vivid red background, extending a sword forward with a focused expression. She wears makeup: her face is powdered white, her eyebrows are two strokes of black, and her eyes are contoured with a fine line.

Ok, I'm watching "Unveil: Jadewind", a Chinese period drama, and trust me, they mean business when they say drama.
Like, did she seriously embroider *that* on his back while he was still alive? I'm not saying she was wrong, but... wow.

Ravel's Bolero is a thing that can get me arrested. Like I swear, if I get in the mood, you can find me singing it aloud in the middle of a deserted street at 2 am.

The only place I've ever seen canned spinach is in cartoons? Sorry, I had to say that. Where do you write from?

The heart button should read "I empathise with this," because half of the time "like" doesn't feel appropriate at all.
I know how many great ideas came from short stories first, and not being able to support yourself by/while writing them shoudn't be how things work.

I got my favourite trousers back from the tailor who did some mending on them, and they come from my time in Jerusalem, and have a label, and when he gave them back to me – my tailor's a huge middle-Eastern man – he said "these come from home", and my heart shattered in a thousand pieces.

Scientists baffled at mysterious ancient creature that doesn't fit on the tree of life as we know it An ancient and enormous organism called Prototaxites, initially found to be a type of fungus, may actually be an unknown branch of life, researchers say.

And hey, ICYMI: Entirely new branch of the animal kingdom just dropped.

We've been just assuming Prototaxites was a huge fungus. It's not. It's its own thing.

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

I... I'm afraid I can't raise my hand here. I'm "some people". Though, in my defence, I liked X-Men the same way I liked The Flintstones movie when I was a little girl.
(the reason being: it had Halle Berry in it 🤫)

Photo of the described owl art. It looks like muddy scratch marks on a mottled brown cave wall. The head is very round with two upright lines for ears and a line in the center for a beak. Numerous parallel lines suggest plumage on the wings.

The oldest known image of an owl:

More than 30,000 years ago, someone skillfully scratched the figure of a long-eared owl (Asio otus) into the soft outer layer of the walls of Chauvet Cave, France. The owl is looking backward over their wings, head turned 180 degrees

The recent Wonder Man has brought to my attention that many of you superhero fans haven't seen Shang Chi, which I think is a shame. In the general panorama of that kind of movies it stands out in a genuine way. On the downside, it'll ruin Hotel California for you. Like forever.

Anyone know anyone at the Folio Society?
Failing that, other publishers of lavishly illustrated books?
Publisher i had as destination for projects has turned problematic.

I understand it has a very different texture and rhythm than many other shows of its kind, but I'm loving the meta and the acting is incredible.
To each its own, of course.

a statue of a lion is laying in the grass in front of a chinese building Alt: A faceless, fluffy, winged ball of fur rolls onto the grass from a live Chinese lion. The scene is from the movie Shang Chi.

I just watched the first episode of #WonderMan and it was surprising. Ben Kingsley has some beautiful lines about acting and the role of theatre, the meta's running strong, and the audition's monologue was really intense. Loved it.
One important question, though: where's Morris?

Anyway, while reading this book I cooked up some thoughts on how anxieties towards technology have evolved (or not) since Dr. Strangelove, and the bomb, through HAL 9000 and AI.
I like the way it turned out. Maybe you'll like it too.
