In late 2020 a Chinese man called Guan Heng travelled to Xinjiang with our BuzzFeed map of detention facilities to provide ground truth for our work - he provided the first corroborating evidence for many sites.

Lecture halls in London, Berlin, or Prague are full of young women dissecting China’s political system,studying Mandarin,and producing essays on Chinese foreign policy,economy, security or society."
Research by Women Insight on China (WiCH) initiative found that in hundreds of events and podcast episodes relating to China organized by European think tanks, nearly 45 pct were "manels" (all-male panels), another 16 pct only had a female moderator. Almost 2/3s of podcast guests and hosts were men.
