But DoD appears to be using LLMs for target selection (Claude), and LLMs have a history of hallucinating.
We would never allow a human with a history of hallucinations to be involved with target selection.

Exactly.
Machine learning is great at image analysis and pattern recognitionβoften finding things that humans cannot see without assistance (or would easily miss).

This was fun in a maddening sort of way :-)
Happy that my color distinction is good. Cut my score in half the second time (below) by taking my glasses off and unfocusing my eyes a little.

He always opens his mouth when he lies.
It is unclear at this point how much human oversight is exercised over Palantirβs AI that is doing target selection in Iran, but given the βklown karβ track record of the Trump regime, itβs not unreasonable to suspect that the guardrails are pretty loose, at best.
So, if AI is being used for target selection with minimal or no human oversight, how is that different from allowing lethal autonomy for AI?
At that point, the human pilots, drone operators, missile techs, etc. are simply acting as waldos for the AI decision-maker.
A slippery slope, indeed.
Ah, I see. Itβs a balmy 42Β° at 1:30 p.m. here. :-)
Wait. Is that the toe of your boot under the water?
Magical. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Looking forward to the release!
Same, Karl.
Aside from the environmental issues, this proposal makes no sense. The timber industry has re-tooled for smaller trees, from logging equipment to transportation to the sawmills themselves. This is folly on so many levels.
Iβm on my way over!
It will take me <checks watch> forever days to get there at my current swimming level.
Thank you! Good luck on your project!
And because it would be a rational thing to do, that rules out Trump doing it.
He has done little this go-round that could be termed rational unless one has also drunk deeply from the same fount of delusion.
This thread. Do check for misogyny, but yeah.
Thank you! Still a long way to go, but weβre getting there!
TIL that scorpions fluoresce.
How, I wonder, did the Red Queen determine that this was an evolutionary advantage??
They what?! (No scorpions west of the Cascade Mountains, so color me clueless. All we have around here are tiny little pseudo-scorpions⦠I wonder if they fluoresce? Hmm!)
Ya learn something new every day!
Yeah. Cows werenβt getting a square meal. <rim shot>
No, unfortunately itβs not.
Hay and forest products at the moment.
Youβre also funny.
Beauty fades, joints creak, flesh sags, and hairlines recede (or vanish), but humor endures.
Your what flashlight??
Iβve already acknowledged that I may have been having an off day and/or read more into your comments than you intended.

Theyβre pretty cool critters. :-)
Elf is a 18.2 hand gelding (6β 2β at the shoulder).
Shasta is a 16.2 hand mare (5β 8β at the shoulder). She was born at Anheuser-Buschβs Warm Springs Ranch in Missouri. They sold her out of their herd when she was two because she was too small. :-)
Iβm 6β 3β, for perspective. :-)
Thatβs Elf on the right, and Shasta on the left.
Me on Elf that one time when he was actually clean.
Me on Shasta when she was younger and cleaner. Hmmβ¦. I was also younger then.
Mayyybeβ¦.
That is stunning.
View of the south side of our new wood-framed barn, showing three oversized doors (one for each oversized stall) and an accompanying window opening.
Outside view of one of the stall doors, showing hinges and a horse-proof latch attached to a wood framed 48β x 60β door framed with 2x8 Douglas-fir.
Looking out through the same door, with slats of light showing through the gaps in the wall sheathing.
I built and installed three doors for the stalls in the new barn that we are building for our Clydesdale horses.
