Grammarly Is Facing a Class Action Lawsuit Over Its AI ‘Expert Review’ Feature
The feature, which Grammarly shut down Wednesday, presented editing suggestions as if they came from established authors and academics—without their consent.
I'm suing Grammarly over its paid AI feature that presented editing suggestions as if they came from me - and many other writers and journalists - without consent.
State law requires consent before someone's name can be used for commercial purposes.

Authoritarian EdTech - Eamon Costello, Stephen Gow, 2025
Careful and consentful models of digital education are being replaced by Authoritarian EdTech. The pedagogical choices digital learning now offers, such as how ...
The episode also had me thinking of this article by @eam0.bsky.social and Stephen Gow on Authoritarian EdTech and how it "revolves around the oppressive foreclosure of choice, consent, debate and deliberation".

Ed-tech in times of Trump - Education Technology Society
Education and technology in the US is currently mired in the volatile politics of the second Trump administration. Dr. Morgan Anderson (University of Northern Iowa) reflects on the state of EdTec...
Another great episode of Education Technology Society, this one featuring Morgan Anderson in conversation w/ @neilselwyn.bsky.social.
Now is a good time for educators to work w/ students to consider how the push to embed GenAI technologies in schools is entangled w/ the spread of authoritarianism.

A DHS investigator generates an AI for catching pedophiles on Kik Messenger, a known hotspot for predators.
🚨NEW🚨 Cops used an AI-generated teenager to catch pedophiles on Kik Messenger, an app notorious as a hive of predator activity.
A rare insight into how police can spin up AI teens for sting operations on social media.
But where else are cops using AI personas?

The choices universities and colleges make about AI are political
Ahead of this week's Digifest, Michael Webb and Rebecca Flook confront the complex values systems behind general purpose AI technology
'The systems now being woven into education are shaped by a remarkably small group of people. Not “the internet” as the source of training material. Not “society” influencing the way we use these tools.'
Fascinating that this comes from within Jisc. 1/3

This 4chan Board Became a Factory for Explicit AI ‘Deepfakes.’ Nobody Is Stopping It. - Open Measures
Open Measures builds accessible and transparent products to contextualize the spread of harmful online information that impacts public discourse and global events.
NEW: One of the most active hubs for sexually explicit AI "deepfakes" is hiding in plain sight. My latest takes a hard look at a 4chan board that's acting as a factory floor for online sexual abuse — where its users have victimized untold numbers of women and girls.

High School English and the Making of American Readers
Abstract. The high school English classroom is the most influential literary institution in the United States, and the most overlooked by literary scholars
"Recent attacks on specific works of literature by Republican state legislatures and conservative orgs...pale in comparison to the large-scale divestment from literature to which liberal and conservative forces alike contribute."

Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X
I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together.
This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.
OpenAI head of robotics just resigned over company deal with the Pentagon saying…
