We attended the Environment & Economy Select Committee last night at Stevenage Borough Council to observe the discussion about the Council's Cycle Strategy. It was good to hear the interest in this strategy & the intention to consult local groups. We look forward to contributing at the next meeting.

Did anyone spot the Christmas tree in a Stevenage underpass recently? Find out why it was there πŸ‘‰ www.cyclinguk.org/group/post/i... We have written once more to Hill and councillors - at both SBC and HCC. We have just one request: "Please could everyone work together for a solution?"

An infographic with title Campaign win! Plans for Roaring Meg road link withdrawn again after resident objections

The infographic has an illustration of a person with a hard hat holding a technical sketch of a building alongside a person in a flowery dress with a bicycle helmet holding a bike.

The infographic reads:
We're on the right track: 9Yards mentioned engagement with Invis-Ability and Cycling UK Stevenage and agreed better cycling, wheeling and walking access is needed. BUT...

Safe and easy cycling routes were missing and a key entrance route was suggested to be changed to pedestrian-only.

Residents across the town responded to our call to OBJECT to the planning application in light of our remaining concerns.

We will continue to campaign for improvements to the Roaring Meg. This would be in line with HCC priorities for active travel. We encourage developers to approach us before drafting their plans. This has led to positive collaborations and results for everyone.

Image summarises the campaign win with headline "New North Herts College location will now include secure cycle parking". Details listed include:
No cycling parking included in the planning application for the College's new location in the town centre.
We responded to the planning application and spoke at the Planning Committee meeting. The Committee agreed that safe parking provision should be provided for staff and students inside the new College.
Concerns about safe access due to the town centre cycling ban remain. We will continue to campaign for safe and convenient routes to and through the town centre.

There's an illustration of three people cycling next to the details of the campaign win. The logo of Cycling UK Stevenage Campaigns is included on the bottom left corner.

Roaring Meg - Cycling and Walking Access

Earlier this year we collaborated with invis-Ability to survey the current situation. We hoped that any further planning applications for Roaring Meg would include the improvements needed for walking, wheeling and cycling. You can find our analysis here:

Proposed Car park alterations at Roaring Meg

Proposals in the new planning application for the Roaring Meg retail park would force people cycling to dismount and walk when they leave the Monkswood Way cycleway (a popular entrance/exit). We're encouraging our network to object to this application to show that cycling access must be improved!

This brand new video shows how London has been transformed for cycling. With the regeneration of our town centre, many people are once again moving out of London to Stevenage. These "new pioneers" have much higher expectations of what good cycling infrastructure is like thanks to this experience!

Stevenage has a strong rating of 75 which has helped Hertfordshire record a good average rating overall. But despite rating well, this global research has reviewed our local insight which indicates that Stevenage is known for having an expansive network that hasn’t led to high usage rates. 2/2

Around 50 cyclists enjoyed perfect weather for our Midsummer Cycling for ALL last weekend. Good News! After a long absence, there are cycle racks outside the main entrance of big Tesco in town again! There are now 12, more than before. We had explained to the Council that people using the racks needed easy, direct access from the cycleway and convenient parking near the store entrance.
