I've been on holiday to the marvellous รฎle d'Oleron, thereby prolonging summer by a couple of days
Now I'm back.
But it's good to know such a place is only three hours away

Toadflax is such a springlike colour for a harbinger of autumn
The terrier in a usual haunt, sniffing smells of hunters and their dogs.
Odd that my dogs hate hunters but linger lovingly over their traces
This is a major plus
I bought them for the bag...
Damn straight! My octogenarian neighbour is really good, too. Curses.
Cheeky little brackets
Oh, you like to support small businesses? Did you know that every author is a small business? You can support us by buying our books and/or talking about our books. It's that simple. Thanks!
Poor little salamander ๐ช

Just got in, what have I missed? I saw Annabel, bless her
Nearly all gone...
The small recumbent concrete person is Ozybabius. Sadly, a well-meaning person who was helping me in the garden chucked his feet, sorry, vast and trunkless legs of stone, away
In my herb garden now: next year's dill and borage has self-seeded. If it survives the frosts...
Granddaughter meets ladybird
A young oak tree stands in a rough pasture. An overgrown hedge is in the distance
I have these fields... I'm rewilding some... about 2 acres of getting on with it
The medlars in my garden are ready to be picked... do I have enough to make jelly?

What what what what what?
I love Only Connect. I like watching UC with other people, in competition mode.
A black and white photo from the early 20th century with a group of people smiling and taking various silly poses, holding tennis rackets and hockey sticks. Marcel Proust is in the middle of the photo on his knees holding a tennis racket like a guitar. He is smiling with a smile of pure silliness.
Marcel Proust playing air guitar on a tennis racket appreciation moment
It gives the common names of fungi in multiple languages. I've ordered it!
My neighbour owns this wonderful book, which I consulted between Scrabble goes
Thank you for following, delightful new followers! I was out playing Scrabble (in French) with my neighbour Pierre and came back to lots of happy notifications.
PS I lost the Scrabble match...
PPS I don't always lose... keeps him on his toes
Would love to read this!
Max the terrier, who hates water, actually went for a paddle here. The only other time I've seen him get his paws wet was when he mistook thick duckweed for greensward and stepped off a (very low) bridge. He swims really well, it transpired.

I'm writing a series of "daughters" of Jane Austen characters for Meryton Press. First one is Maria Bertram's daughters. Coming soon: Lydia Wickham's daughter.
I took a selfie in which I look like the proprietor of a magical but sinister junk shop
Autumnal comfort food: white beans (mogettes de Vendรฉe) in home-made chicken stock with nettles (they're shooting enthusiastically in my garden). The slow cooker keeps the house warm, too
