far and away the most heartbreaking result of the election is this: i teach at a title-1 school. 90% of the student body are black and hispanic/latinx. i have been a listening ear to dozens of students whose families are terrified of being deported. it is so hard to only be able to say “i dont know”

if you are still in undergrad, please please please dont find reasons not to be creative. use the time and energy you have to set good habits for life after you graduate. go to a park and write about what you see. people-watch and write a backstory for someone. create!!!

i am a firm believer that the best way to get your foot in the door of being able to analyze and enjoy literature is to start with film.
it never fails to surprise me that many of the same rhetorical strategies that the greatest authors use are also employed by filmmakers.
