Basicially: economy politics as it is currently encourages only "successful" genres. Since breakout hits of undeserved genres are rare... whatever is currently popular stays status quo until status quo economically & socially changes

Lack of money to advertise the game, lack of funds to continue the studio after a financial flop, or just only had it in them for one game...

It lowers the chances of seeing a higher quality game due to lack of experience but also lack of exposure due to no fan base to spread awareness.

If the economy had stuff like universal basic income & insurance then taking risks on just making undeserved genres or personal faves would be easier.

However that isn't the case often. There are probably many other studios that tried making games for those said things but due to stuff like

None of these genres are bad, popular or otherwise, but at least in the US and such to have a team any bigger than 1 person requires a lot of money to keep the team together.

Plus there's issues of trying to get investors who obviously would want only the guarantees

Spend five minutes in a brainstorm with a dev team and you'll have more ideas than you know what to do with, most of them completely awesome. No one needs a computer spitting out hashed garbage from things that have already been made for that.

My personal gaming Hot take (though its probably just mild):

First Party Exclusives for consoles aren't bad

Timed Exclusives, such as from third parties that would otherwise be able to multiplatform easily and didnt need funding to exist in the first place, are awful.

Much like "slop" its kinda used needlessly and, frankly, modern usage of filler isnt bad in the seasonal outputs because theyre meant to add to scenes that were other short or add what might've been needed vs just delaying the next chapter coverage by a week.

Its no longer needed in discussion imo.

And then needing a ton of episodes so the time skip could have enough chapters to begin covering again.

It was useful then since, usually, those things won't be covered again by the future episodes if it's following the manga closely otherwise.

But these days the phrase is so overused!

I think its the disconnect from what the original term meant at least in TV show stuff like Anime

One meaning is it isn't from the source material and is created so as to not catch up to the Manga that is often still in production.

The worst case being Naruto due to it catching up-
