This morning, I qualified to run for the DeKalb County Board of Education, District 4.
I did not plan to run and made my decision yesterday based on the chaotic rollout of redistricting. We need good representation.

We paid 1.5M for elementary athletic uniforms and they barely fit. And we are broke.
There is a reason why most school districts don’t offer elementary athletics.
3. The board is not understanding that any issues are not because of “misinformation.” The community has rejected it already.
4. There is an abundance of scholarly research on school closures. DeKalb has followed none of it.

1. None of the board members are on the same page. Neither is the supt. No one is in charge.
2. There is a board policy on school closures. They need to legally stick to it. “SAP” is not part of it. We’ll hold the board to following it.

If Dr. Sauce does not want to be superintendent, he does not have to take the job.
Supervising this, and making sure this plan works, is *actually* part of HIS job description & should be his number one responsibility.

Spotlight hours were my favorite feature. So disappointed.
Also, we can’t do Saturday events this spring due to kid activities. Feels really isolating as I actually like going to events in my community and being able to show up on Sundays was really nice.

I know it is a meme, but 1-2 a year, my friends and I would fly to Vegas on a Fri afternoon from NYC, stay up the whole time, take a red eye on Sun night and walk in to work Mon morning, because it was so cheap.
Not me, taking a shower, having shower thoughts… and realizing I have a whole platform I had written in my head if I ran for school board.
Our school is on the list and we don’t meet any of the 3 criteria.

One thing that is apparent from ICE & SAVE Act discourse: Republican legislators & executive branch folks, who have staff do everything for them, have no idea what a Real ID is.
It shows how out of touch they are with average Americans.
The Dem candidates have been making their way through our neighborhood through meet & greets at homes. They have all conflicted with my schedule, but I have noticed that Bottoms is very absent from multiple rotations.
I have not been up on this, but the demise of the Factbook has been a big topic of discussion among high school teachers who used it as a teaching tool.
