Amazing. NYT has more confirmation that Trump's decision to bomb Iran was motivated in large part by the way the Israeli strikes were "playing" on Fox News, which drove him to want credit for it

Starmer confirms in PMQs that the government will be looking at β€œthe threshold” on winter fuel payments β€œas part of the next fiscal event.”

Bob Maddams: The prime minister's reset is an important step in the right direction. If it goes well in practice further renegotiations will surely follow that work in the economic interests of both the UK and our European neighbours. So just for once it would be pleasing if the Tories and other opposition parties responded positively to a government initiative that acts in the best interests of the country at large, instead of reacting with kneejerk critical comments about "betraying" the electorate.
The only betrayal that took place in 2016, and subsequently, was the one perpetrated by Boris Johnson, who placed personal ambition and political capital above the interests of the British people. Kemi Badenoch would do well to remember this and for once ignore the Tory grandees and get behind a process that will be good for Britain. Moreover, distancing herself from the mess the Tories made of Brexit can only be to her advantage.

The Brexit mood music has changed. You can’t wang on about sovereignty and fish any more and expect people to care. Trade deals aren’t massively convincing either. People just don’t want hassle and higher bills. That’s all Brexit actually delivered. We’re very tired of the failure.

Baby boomers, like me, didn't have material trinkets but we had hope, a free education, secure employment and affordable housing.
Generation Z have none of these, little wonder they suffer from anxiety and depression.

To be clear, I believe that the US should be thanking Zelenskyy and Ukraine for standing up and defending freedom. They’re the ones bearing this burden in lives and disruption. It’s only the small and insecure who think they should be thanking us.

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia.

Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist.

Extraordinary.

President Zelenskyy has been one of the greatest leaders of our time, guiding Ukraine through the darkest period of its recent history, rising up to Russia’s unwarranted aggression, being an inspiration to the Ukrainian people and ensuring that Ukraine’s voice is heard on the world stage.

A Trump shill on Newsnight claims there are more people in prison in UK jails for freedom of speech violations than in Putin’s Russia.

These people are radicalised, insane, plain stupid or some combination of all three.

In an NHS ward I saw how Britain relies on immigrants. Yet still we tell them they’re not wanted | John Harris My dad’s journey through the health and social care systems proves what politicians secretly know: we’ll be lost if they succeed in β€˜sending them home’, says Guardian columnist John Harris

A welcome antidote to the xenophobic nonsense about "low-wage" migrant workers that floods the opinion pages of the Telegraph and Times.

John Major is on R4 now being very critical of the Trump administration, which he calls very different to any US presidency he has seen. Major says JD Vance's speech in Munich was "not statesmanship" and it is odd to lecture about free speech while "cuddling Mr Putin".

Who will defend Europe? Caught between an aggressive Russia and a disengaging America, the continent’s western democracies must now rearm β€” or pay the price

In this new world, if you're not around the table, you're on the menu.

If China, Russia, US are allowed to decide Europe's future, our future won't be ours.
