Istanbul Airport (IST), flying with Turkish Airlines to Sofiaπ§π¬ in 2024.
6/10, overall a nice but minimal disability assistance. Need to specifically call the airline to request it. But bonus points for recognising the sunflower lanyard and respectful staff.
Dusseldorf, GE. Flying with SAS in 2023 to Copenhagen.
0/10. I never got my confirmed (!) assistance and airport staff made me cry. I wouldnβt use this airline/airport again as a disabled person. Felt humiliated and helpless, but we discussed it later and I hope the service has improved since then.
Warsaw, Poland. Flying with LOT in 2024 to Sofia, BG.
10/10, this was absolutely excellent with great attention to detail, a truly tailored support, and an incredibly polite and respectful airport staff. Would absolutely use again and recommend to fellow disabled passengers.
Cologne, Germany. Travelling with Ryanair in 2024 to Sofia, Bulgaria.
2/10, no private waiting area & this was the one time I needed a wheelchair, so I had to lie down on metallic chairs in front of everyone. Very long wait and absolute bare minimum help. The agent was nice, and thatβs about it.
Paris, Orly. Travelling with Vueling Airlines in 2023 to Porto, Portugal.
9/10, hands down the best disability assistance I ever received. They really went above and beyond and made me feel safe and respected. Lost one point for a VERY long wait for the assistance agent (over 1 hour).
I travel a lot for work and leisure, and I happen to have what is commonly called an βinvisible disabilityβ. Navigating airports is difficult for me, so I often request special assistance services. Iβve noticed that their quality varies greatly across the continent.
