Yet another example that so much tech is someone trying to recreate a mother/wife/girlfriend. I think I'd find this so much more compelling if any of these "mundane tasks" put the perspective of caregivers and carers first. So many of the most important things in life are very mundane.
One curse of being a GMT+0 developer is that it is not easy to see errors relating to local time zone offsets

great article about the devaluation of absolutely anything where women achieve 50%. which is a thing.
TIL that most painting software cannot mix colors like in real life scrtwpns.com/mixbox/
TSConfigs aren't that hard.
They're basically just 2 if/else statements in a trenchcoat.

The tech bro fascination with eugenics is so on brand. The idea that you could make accurate, actionable predictions from individual genotypes (with all their complex, non-linear interactions) from averaged, linearly modeled population-level genomic statistics is just another big data fantasy
Companies are so surveillance-pilled and data hungry that they are trying to get everyone to believe that one of the worst aspects of modern technologyβthat you are constantly surveilledβis now a thing you should wholeheartedly embrace and integrate into every aspect of your existence.
Oooh a quiz! Let's all do this to get to know each other better:

Some of y'all are a hacker's dream. π These questionnaires got you in a chokehold.
hi, i wrote a post - "Defining AI".

"Nothing about AI is inevitable β and generative AI is just a series of tools. If the person who created the spanner was insistent that spanners had to be attached to everything, life would have gotten boring pretty quickly." buttondown.com/justenoughin... Brilliance by @rachelcoldicutt.bsky.social
Hi, so I've spent the past almost-decade studying research uses of public social media data, like e.g. ML researchers using content from Twitter, Reddit, and Mastodon.
Anyway, buckle up this is about to be a VERY long thread with lots of thoughts and links to papers. π§΅
Setting to require alt text on images in Bluesky application
This is a friendly reminder to enable the setting that forces you to supply an alt text when you attach an image.
Lets all do our bit to make this place as accessible as possible! π

If youβre building a website or app from scratch, itβs so much cheaper and much less stressful if you add in accessibility from the start.
Iβm currently trying to retrofit accessibility features and itβs taken a week to do something that couldβve taken less than a day if done at the start
Every time I see someone post this image it goes viral
I built a silly usage of the Bluesky Firehose just to get my feet wet and see what was possible. It's kinda fun to just watch. www.emojirain.lol
I made a starter pack of reporters, organizers, and advocates defending workers' rights to decide if and how they want to engage with technology. I'm missing so many people - please DM me with suggestions!

One thing I hope we can do as Bluesky gets larger is be less tolerant of the resistance grifters who will try to hack the platform for engagement and growth without any interest in adding anything substantive or meaningful
Itβs a different kind of troll.
I made a thing!
I was playing around with the AT protocol and as a little experiment I made a website that visualises activity around Bluesky: nightsky.hctr.dev
It listens to all new posts and shows them as little stars across a night sky π
Every star is someone, somewhere, posting something
Good morning.
