I cannot actually be the only person on this website with the sort of job where, even if I wanted to, I can’t “just switch to Linux,” but one wouldn’t know from reading all you nerds’ comments.

The same Ecuador that DHS says is a safe third country?
To be fair he's from New York so he probably thinks the Supreme Court is just a trial court.
Heads up folks: @thetnholler.bsky.social posted an AI-generated video this morning that was a deepfake of the captain of the U.S. women’s hockey team, and they seem to be promoting it as if it’s a real video. So watch out for that and don’t spread fakes.
@mikezvi.bsky.social and I just watched; we are 1000% on board.

Hey now I RENTED Street Fight ON A DVD from NETFLIX and…yeah.

I'm not trying to add snark. I keep hearing versions of this and think it's useful to consider.
Let's assume for the sake of argument that it is true that the lower courts are working. That forcing lawyers for immigrants to prove 4,400 times that the .gov breaking the law is the system working. +
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.
I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

The federal government is dismantling pretty much every vehicle for immigration relief and the ‘opposition’ party is negotiating for agents to wear name tags.
The admin is turning the BIA into just a place to hand down rights stripping precedents (actually can just have the AG do that) and not hear any actual appeals from immigrants
Um, how am I supposed to cite which state is comparable in geographic size to a given small country now??
(For real this sucks though.)
The first group has to include anyone who has answered phones in a congressional office, and also C-SPAN call screeners.
You can always check here to find some bail funds to support: www.communityjusticeexchange.org/en/nbfn-dire... - not all bail funds are part of the network but all who are part of the network are vetted.
I don't have much to say on the subject of Scott Adams except that I remember being on a Metafilter thread in 2011 when a rando said, "he has a certified genius I.Q., and that's hard to hide."
Somebody then said, "Hi Scott," and it was, in fact, him.
A few months ago, ICE hired me
I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable
And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"
My latest for Slate
ForwardBlue facebook ad suggesting that people sign up with them to register for the next No Kings day, which they are not involved in.
Please be aware that contrary to their fundraising ads, @forwardblue.bsky.social has no relationship with the No Kings mobilizations, no record of doing anything in support, no inside information, and is ignoring requests to cease advertising that suggests they are involved.
We deserve political leaders who fight as hard for democracy as the average canvasser and ICE observer.
Just a reminder that George Conway is not fundraising right now to run against a MAGA republican.
He is fundraising to run against progressive Democrats.
It’s been done (but 10 years apart)! www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-record...
This is happening around the country and it's the new normal in immigration court — the creation of a "heads I win, tails you lose" system where the government is seeking to dismiss virtually EVERY SINGLE asylum claim through so-called "safe third country" agreements.
Hadn’t thought about this in a while.
This is what asylum practice is increasingly looking like; the Trump admin is moving to "pretermit" every single claim (or nearly every single claim) as a move to avoid having to grant anyone asylum.
“What’s The Sure Thing?” you may have been wondering. I am so excited for you.
An all-time fav that for some reason is streaming nowhere. I own an external disc drive literally just so I can continue to rewatch this one perfect movie.
"Trump will just defy court orders, what's even the point of litigating"
This, this a point
THE WAY MY FACE JUST LIT UP
Are you looking for a fun way to make Death by Lightning even more all-over-the-place tonally than it already is? If so, I highly recommend accidentally starting with the last episode!
