As someone who doesn't watch normal TV, I was once again not prepared for Fox commercials.

It is a much more interesting pitching pool for the Phillies than hitting. A lot of that is we have seen everyone but Miller and Rincones quite a bit this spring. Also they drafted so many pitchers last year and we just have not seen any of them.
Quick Look At Phillies Spring Breakout Player Pool
Not all 40 names will play, but the Phillies have two games and a host of interesting 2025 draftee pitchers who could make their professional debuts.
I wrote thousands of words about that and other Cristopher SΓ‘nchez and Curtis Mead fun facts (did you know they faced each other in Australian winter ball the year before the trade when they were both anonymous?) for @baseballprospectus.com www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/ar...
My best guess is Pop to start because he is out of options and has looked fine
I was unaware that he was ready, my guess is he gets removed from the list.
It feels like there has been a stronger move of smuggling out every teenager and there just is not a talent base on the island while all those kids go into the MLB international signee woodchipper
It is the first week of March, but it is hard not to feel optimistic about the Phillies pitching. Luzardo and Sanchez look just as good, Nola looks revitalized, Painter had a good start, and Walker looks serviceable. More importantly, there is real bullpen depth.
Phillies play two games this year, so we could see a ton of prospects, even if they aren't household names.
I will do a full review later today, but fun things on the Phillies preliminary roster.
- All the 2025 draftees including Fisher and Obermueller debuts
- Romeli Espinosa and Anderson Araujo
- Anderson Navas making his pitching debut
- Wen-Hui Pan back from surgery
- Moises Chace is listed
Look how we killed baseball in a large region of the country
I am actively rooting against the US in the WBC for a variety of reasons, but I also have zero doubts in my mind that when things get rough, and tough decisions need to be made, that this coaching staff will absolutely make the wrong move.
It is going to rock so much when they bring him into a big game and he gets to just melt down in a big moment for old time's sake.
It has not been the cleanest spring for Jonathan Bowlan who I thought might have impact potential. He wants his fastball up, but it has been too up. The good news is he probably 6th on the bullpen depth chart and 4th among RHP so there is time to dial it all in.
Also he threw two true splitters to O'Neill, one at 85 (labeled a curveball) and another at 89. Spin rate was sub 1000 RPM with more vertical drop than the splinker.
Sweeper was up, but I am glad to see Duran throw it to a righty. Not that anyone does great things against him, but righties can put the ball in play vs him and another weapon there is good.
On the baseball diamond he is also terrible. He has not been a good defender in years, is nearly 33 and has spent part of 7 seasons in the majors accumulating a whopping .521 PAs and 68 OPS+. He appeared in 1 major league game last year.
I find it fascinating that people are only now realizing anything about Garrett Stubbs, a man whose claim to fame is being the clubhouse DJ and getting absolutely hammered in celebrations. Like the whole clubhouse is a cesspool on these type of things, but like what did you expect?
Keaton Anthony in left field. Feels semi notable
I think Seth Johnson is working on a sweeper
They made some really good trades when the A's were being dumb, and they have done some good pitching development. However, their pitching core all blew out but Fried, who walked. AcuΓ±a has not been healthy enough to be that transcendent star to patch over ownership not spending.
My opinion on the Braves is that they completely squandered their dynasty window with poor financial management. They signed everyone to extensions, wiping out cheap CBT years, and then hid at lower cash spend behind those higher tax numbers, and never spent to build depth.
If you need to talk about things serious or completely irrelevant my DMs and mentions are open. If you are ever in this area I will be you a drink, coffee, etc.
I honestly donβt know what to say anymore. Everything sort of sucks at every turn and I am in a somewhat privileged place of safety unable to really help out people all around me under siege and world hell bent on destruction.
Once they remove more levels of the minor leagues in the CBA isnβt this just minor league spring training?
Like the number is going up, but for most of us that is a number they need to count on continuing to go up for decades and the whole time we are just holding all of their risk.
I would argue we are probably already there with the AI companies and other major corporations. American's being tied to the stock market for retirement in the same way they are tied to employment for insurance, means they are captive to it being unlimited money for those in power.
I don't think they have said anything specific, but it looks fastball heavy with a couple secondary pitches thrown in. That sort of is a normal distribution for early in spring training for most pitchers unless they have a specific thing they are trying.
It will be interesting to parse all of the data later, but we look to have gotten a 4-seam fastball, sinker, slider, curveball, sweeper, and changeup from Painter today
It turns out it would actually be like $20 because it would somehow downgrade the Disney+ account, that I don't know who might be using, to having ads. Who designed this system?
