Something I sometimes do (and have occasionally had people flag as possible accidental repetition) is have Polla and... Er, "Lolla" have the same thought. Or start to have it, but for one of them it goes in the completely opposite direction, or tangents off to say something totally different.)
The NYT just published an article about two teenager boys who came to NYC on a lovely spring day to enjoy the weather and, oopsie, drop off a handcrafted smoke device with some nails in it as part of their protest... Instead of saying Terrorists try to nail bomb NYC mayor, so not much hope there.
James Tiptree, short stories; Sherri S Tepper, Grass.
Which one has oil? Australia, maybe?
The first piece of long fiction that I ever finished was my fanfiction. Started in 2004. Finished in 2020. (I took ten years off somewhere in the middle.)
Endings are hard!! But it is never too late.
Next week, everybody!
Mine is a bit different than most... I found mine to be ineffective and sometimes a bit passive aggressive with their super super niceness.
You can't always decide things by consensus. And sometimes pacifism does not work.
Otoh, we are overdue for a Quaker revival.
Me too, except when it's me slagging it.
But I just have reached my tolerance end on some of its Fifty Shades tropes... Which, one could argue, also flirt with misogyny.
It was always on at 3am when I staggered home from the club... Or was just up with insomnia.
That was really good. And surprisingly heartwarming.
I always put "Dead Like Me" in with those.
The US one was going to mine, but I wondered if it was too well known
I bought the entire thing on Prime.
Blakes' 7 (only because it's old, I think it's pretty famous.)
Cursed. one season, 2020, RIP.
Honorable Mention: Don't Trust the B in Apt 23.
If you never read monsters, you may miss quite a bit about how they're made.
The cars! Black turtlenecks. JFK Jr! That version of NYC. And the smoking.
So. Much. Smoking. I feel like they really leaned into that, and it was a nicely accurate detail that went with the doomed theme.
The writing did a fantastic job of humanizing both of them, too. Was all well done.
I did not think I would have any interest in Netflix's "Love Story," but I somehow started watching it... and it was such a perfect encapsulation of a time in a specific place that I remember so well (if you subtract the vast wealth and political dynasties), that I was enchanted by it.
Grats)
So The Demon Star, by @jvawrites.bsky.social is excellent! I got a netgalley copy... Book releases in July.
It is brutal and smart and very fast-paced. Space opera on a harsh planet, brain worms, and flawed people trying to save what they can from ruin.
To you too!
Thanks ) the work continues...
It's kind of sardonic humor, fyi.
I don't even think anyone in my God's War books considered bombing the facilities that make water. That is some real Assyrian salting the earth shit.
Today is the day I confront the fact that I have like five versions of book 3, some dating back to 2021, and paste what I think might be salvageable into one document.
And the #audiobook for the 2nd #scifibook in my The Wrecking Squad series is out now. Butcherβs Folly has the ragtag crew of the Sunstar heading for a rundown space station seeking stolen wetware. #sciencefiction #scifibooks
Sometimes I think I'm a masochist. First I complain about not being recognized for my work, then I post something that's so garbled it might as well be in crayon as a representative of same...
But the moral here is: WRITE. Allow yourself to be terrible. Work through it.
βSales of books by Black authors declined 14% even as overall print sales slightly rose.β ππ
First day on bluesky and excited to share some of my interactive fiction/visual novel projects i've been working on. So far I've created a space horror parody, a cozy 2d pixel art sidescroller and a cozy/dark fantasy visual novel that has RPG dice rolling mechanics #interactivefiction #writer
But please don't judge my writing by this word salad, lol. I think only the dialogue at the end is final draft stuff. Maybe.
