The real money for the prime contractors is in development programs, not munitions production. Hot wars cost too much & divert development budgets to operations.
From a financial standpoint, cold wars are a lot better for them.
So that we can then join the EU, too⦠right?
My high school had a cellphone ban more than 20 years ago and it wasnβt a problem because, like many impractical rules, we ignored it. Theyβd be confiscated if taken out during classβ¦ so donβt do that. π€·ββοΈ
Wait, *thatβs* what happened to the Babbage engine?! Oh, ffsβ¦
In my experience, diskette was mostly used when floppy diskettes and larger floppy disks were both present as a means for specifying which you were referring to. Otherwise, it was all just shortened to floppy.
Yeah, pretty muchβ¦ Though, in this context, Iβd argue Morro Bay still counts as the pacific
βShipping velocity matters more than perfection.β
Iβm gonna have to pass that along to folks I know writing safety critical embedded softwareβ¦ as if they arenβt already horrified enough by AI code generation.
I see thereβs a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).

Amazing is certainly one way to describe itβ¦
But rental fleet operators need cars to inflict upon peopleβ¦
Wow, I didnβt expect that outcome
The udcap gloves seem like an interesting option for VRChat use (less so for gaming, due to the button/control setup). How have they been compared to the Diver-X?
With what Iβve witnessed, Iβd be deeply impressed to see a construction contractor wearing appropriate PPE.
Pretty sure my drywall hanger would have just died had I not shut off his generator (running indoors) and brought him an extension cord.
In a sane world, Zuck wouldnβt hold >60% of the voting shares.
Yeah, the realization I couldnβt actually buy the good powders that are used to make most brandsβ pods was pretty disappointing.
That approach can work if the design & engineering decisions that went into the specifics are well understood (I.e. the institutional knowledge is intact). Weβd have to completely reverse engineer Saturn V first to have any hope of knowing how/what can be changed w/o compromising the rocket
At this point, that would involve designing an entirely new rocket. The institutional knowledge for Saturn V is gone and technology today is considerably different. Plus, modern spaceflight has much lower tolerance for risk than in the Apollo era.
Thin, arrow-like aircraft flying overhead during takeoff.
Managed to get a kinda ok photo of X-59βs first flight this morning. Given the circumstances, I shouldnβt have hoped for much more.
Purchasing differences, if they exist, could be due to demographic misalignment between the store and EV early-ish adopters.
A lone voice speaking truth may be drowned by a cacophonous enemy. But when true warriors stand together, add their voices to a chorus, the words gain the power to sweep away any perfidious clamor. Today of all days, add your voice, warriors, and sing for what's right.
There were a lot of people out at 40E
Todayβs test flight has been scrubbed.

Pretty cold out here at the plant. Word circulating is delay due to technical issues. Maybe another couple hours or so.
I can see the appeal of AR in that it eases the cybersickness problem, but at the cost of more restrictive/worse experiences in a lot of cases.
Flailing to recover R&D money at the realization of how small the market is for the current state of tech?
Honestly, VR is pretty awesome but is still cost prohibitive to do well & something like 80% of people experience cybersickness when you strap them into an HMD. Motion sickness adaption is a slow, uncomfortable process most arenβt willing to go through just to use VR.
This seems utterly ridiculous, but I donβt care: Iβm in.

First heat pump water heater was faulty, but Rheem support was cool & sent me the field repair manual so I could fix it myself (no techs in the area in 2019). They sent the parts I requested & it has been great ever since.
Built my guest house entirely electric (no gas line) & the main house is almost there (just the dryer & cooktop left). I had similar issues with plumbers & heat pump water heaters. Got them to quote it as a normal install if I took responsibility for everything beyond water hookups.
