I just posted one about developing disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent forms and structures!
A yellow background features an image of a pixie haired woman wearing round glasses and a cream-colored sweater smiling in a brightly lit forest. The logo for the University of Pittsburgh rests at the top of the page followed by black text reading, βDiscovering Disabled Forms and Structures Writing Workshop with Sarah Fawn Montgomery Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2-3:30pm EST. The writing workshop is a space where power and privilege often demand disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent writers translate their lived experiences for abled audiences in order to be valued. Embodying ableist expectations is an act of erasure that injuries disabled spirits and silences disabled stories. But turning to disabled bodies and minds can be a source of great inspiration and innovation. In this interactive workshop, Sarah Fawn Montgomery will share strategies from Nerve: Unlearning Workshop Ableism to Develop Your Disabled Writing Practice, as well as her recent essay, βMedical Intake for Your Suffering,β to help writers discover disabled forms and structures for creative work. She will then lead participants through a short, low-stakes writing exercise (with no requirement to share) to consider various disabled forms and structures they might employ in their work, encouraging participants to reflect on how and why this approach to writing might tend to both their bodies and bodies of work. This event is part of "Creating a Culture of Access" programming, sponsored by The Writing Institute. Registration is required and can be done through the QR code or by visiting The Writing Institute website. Access questions and requests can be directed to Jessie Male at jem496@pitt.edu.β A QR code sits at the bottom of the page.
Iβm thrilled to be collaborating with The Writing Institute at the University of Pittsburgh for the spring 2026 Creating a Culture of Access Series! Iβll be presenting a free Zoom writing workshop on βDiscovering Disabled Forms and Structuresβ on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2-3:30pm EST.
Excited to share my latest lyric essay in the new issue of Hunger Mountain! This borrows the form of convoluted and ableist medical intake paperwork, which any disabled person can tell you is often as exhausting as the actual experience of disability.
