A quote from me - βitβs pretty insulting to see scholarship used this way when the academic humanities are currently under attack from every possible angle β as though the actual people who do the thinking and produce the scholarship are reducible to their work itself, and can be removed entirely from the equationβ
Went on record saying, essentially, βAI sucks, fund the humanitiesβ today

Zoe: publishing is the act of making public - it is not the multi-billion dollar industry of extracting financial value out of academic labour. Scholar-led presses are a site of resistance against the marketization of research publishing #CopimConference
@copim.bsky.social began with a group of academics & small-scale OA publishers coming together over their worries about the behaviour of legacy academic publishers enclosing knowledge plus the takeover of publishing infrastructures by legacy publishers to 'lock down' schol comms #Copimconference
A call to arms from @rupertgatti.bsky.social for all attendees at #Copimconference to keep engaging with @copim.bsky.social and to feed into what's next for #openaccess & #openinfrastructures - join the Jiscmail! copim@jiscmail.ac.uk

Two delegates talking to each other during a coffee break, both smiling, other delegates in the background

#CopimConference - thatβs a wrap! Two days well spent, celebrating the spirit of the @copim.bsky.social community & enjoying time together in person β¨ Letβs all keep up momentum and continue exploring the future of community-led #OAbooks
Thinking some more about the long history of scholar-led presses, I was reminded of an H5P timeline, which was looking into the emergence of scholar-led initiatives particularly in the field of #MediaStudies ... might be of interest to #CopimConference participants?

Amazingly stimulating closing keynote by Siddharth Soni here at #CopimConference - and wonderful to see both Harney & Molten and Ruth Wilson Gilmore referenced!
Extremely pleased by Siddharth Soni's critical stance on generative "AI" and how it is embedded in a closed ecosystem and serves to enclose what should be commons. It's been nice to attend a conference that isn't in thrall to ridiculous Big Tech hype. #CopimConference
