"Deliberately attacking โ a school โor hospital or any other civilian structure would likely be a war crime... If a U.S. role were to be confirmed, the strike would rank among the worst cases of civilian casualties in decades of U.S. conflicts in the โMiddle East." www.reuters.com/world/middle...
Thank you for doing so!!
I just wrote a @theactionnetwork.bsky.social letter: Email your representative: No War with Iran! Write one here: actionnetwork.org/letters/emai...
This is precisely it, and it mirrors their strategy in Lebanon and Syria. Where they cannot procure a compliant authoritarian, they settle for weakness, divided societies, and the ability to sustain that division through violence with impunity. Definitional rogue state.
The first deaths announced from the US-Israeli strikes on Iran: dozens of school girls. They hit an elementary school in Hormozgan.
NO WAR ON IRAN
Fuck, fuck, fuck
Profoundly evil and sad story of a blind Rohingya refugee who survived the killing fields of Myanmar only to die alone in the cold in Buffalo, NY after Border Patrol dumped him 5 miles from home without notifying his family.

Over the past two decades, successive governments have steadily reduced social provision and dismantled welfare protections, while presenting market discipline, fiscal restraint, price liberalisation, and labour flexibility as the only viable response to Iranโs systemic crises. This commitment to free market orthodoxy has increasingly been treated as โcommon senseโ within elite policy circles, even as living standards have deteriorated and inequality has deepened. Sanctions have accelerated this trajectory by constraining state revenues and providing both justification and cover for regressive economic restructuring. The result has been a sustained transfer of risk and precarity from the state and predatory oligarchs onto workers, pensioners, and the urban and provincial poor.
Thinking about the time I referred to the Islamic Republic as neoliberal and got yelled at by tankies and neoliberals alike. Anyway it's a good interview www.counterfire.org/article/iran...
Thanks! Love this. A couple (gasht, tฤza) are etymologically Persian, but it looks like you figured that out already.
I made a list of all the Turkish vocab I could find, I had to include Persian in the table because several words do seem closer to the Persian pronunciation.

The pharmacy word is from Ottoman ุงุฌุฒุงุฎุงูู eczaแธซane (> modern Turkish eczane). It also occurs in Egyptian and Levantine Arabic. The interesting thing in the Iraqi case is that the consonants of ajzฤ (itself an Arabic-origin word) have assimilated to become azzฤ.
Yeah exactly.
What are some examples of the Turkish words that entered Emirati via Persian?
Yes, would just add that it's an Ottoman loan in Iraqi. ฤbdast (abdest / aptes) still survives in modern Turkish even as it's long gone out of use in Persian itself.

In 1996 it was sealed off from the rest of Brazil, at least in theory; but illegal gold miners continued to trespass, and as late as 2017 gold prospectors could still go into a bar and boast of having just murdered ten tribespeople.
He did not conceal his political opinions: he was, he said, a โclassical Stalinistโ and a โright-wing Marxistโ and he believed that the epoch of autonomous nation-states was coming to an end; but as a civil servant he was willing to promote the long-term interests of France, as he saw them.
I wonder if the @lrb.co.uk has a policy of allowing conjunctions after a semicolon (maybe to break up long sentences?) These two stood out to me* in the 5 Feb 2026 issue

Today I finished cataloging 36 Arabic manuscripts from Eyes on Heritage, a cultural institution in Gaza. These manuscripts were photographed before the Israeli invasion in 2023, but the team was only recently able to send these digital images to @visithmml.bsky.social's partners in Jerusalem
Not just Bangladesh but India and Pakistan as well
