One of the best things I ever wrote came from the effect that the Leftovers had on me. And yes, Jon, I agree! πŸ’š variety.com/2017/tv/colu...

I can read a bunch of stuff on the computer and diagnose myself, but if a company does that and misdiagnoses me without a medical license they would be liable. This isn’t hard to understand, is there some kind of gas leak happening over there?

Also didn’t they sort of speed run the entire extended underlying plot of the show in the movie?

And if you're pitching to this (which you should!), you might also consider putting in a proposal for this seminar, which might be a useful place to get feedback on a draft in progress! bsky.app/profile/akta...

Daylight Savings is actually totally anodyne. The reason it's so objectionable is because twice a year we get reminded that our social form would rather mess with our sleep than shift work hours so that we could have both the sleep and sunlight after working hours.

It might seem crazy to imagine changing the hours of the working day twice a year, but is that more crazy than changing EVERY HOUR FOR EVERYONE instead?

I spent a year inside the content moderation workforce in Nairobi and Manila β€” the human cost of making AI 'safe' is a class story nobody wants to tell - Silicon Canals The people who teach AI the boundary between acceptable and unacceptable content earn $230 a month in Nairobi and Manila. The companies whose products depend on that labor are worth trillions. This is the class story at the heart of AI safety that the industry would rather not tell.
