As her child experienced a mental health care crisis, Kristen Holub struggled to get them the care they needed. With the passage of House Bill 1085, she believes it will now be easier to find the care her family needs.
Why is it so hard to find a therapist who accepts your insurance? It's because therapists are blocked from negotiating their rates with insurance companies, so many just can't afford to. Health care organizer Maeve Raphelson explains why this is about to change in Illinois.
Aly Light struggled to find a therapist when she needed one. Over the past two years, she has been organizing to pass House Bill 1085 this fall to expand the number of mental health care providers who take insurance for all of us.
Insurance reimbursement rates for mental health care were often so low that Mandy Jones-Fisher couldn't afford her own care. She talks about why House Bill 1085 will help more therapists and mental health care providers stay in the field.
