This may sound like culture war poasting but here me out: “wokism” really does have some of the characteristics of religious accretion

Plausible to see it mutating into a proper one over time as original context gets lost

But it he (and followers) are likely just one of many early mycelial feelers in something bigger;

we won’t see the meat of this until we get a few more years of AI capability growth and it goes into contact with billions of people

I’m not joking, Eliezer Yudkowski follows the prophet archetype in religious history so strongly it’s incredible. The fact that most don’t see what he’s saying as “religious” is just a sign that he’s a “prophet” for our times, which is a +sign for budding new religions

AI is an obvious (and imo the strongest) pathway. ASI or an actual machine god is not even remotely necessary for this;

the primordial stages of this started with the consumption of science fiction and we’re in the early stages of mythos/prophecy forming

“new” religions with the potential for mass adoption are clearly rare in time

and many just can’t imagine a new religion in our (increasingly godless) cultural landscape

but I think the period we’re in is the most fecund one we’ve had in millennia for new religious seed

his particular brand of [hyper contrarian, tough guy, intellectual] just attracts a lot of price reduced midwits because the *actual* intersection of those three sets is tiny in the modern world
