Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command.
It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards.
Automated snapshots were gone too.
In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again.
If you use Terraform (or let agents touch infra), this is a good story for you to read.
Back in my day you needed a senior engineer for this sort of thing

So it seems itβs not so much a case of βHell no, we wonβt payβ as βThe system was never expected to have to deal with the consequences of having such a stupid President, and itβs going to take some time to adapt it to handle the ridiculous situation heβs put us in.β

Assuming storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us... is the relevant filing, it explains that their systems are incapable of processing the required refunds in a timely manner, they donβt have the staff for the manual processes required, and itβll take ~45 days to implement the necessary features.

I don't know how to explain this but Casablanca is a movie for adults.
There are lots of movies built on an element of fantasy about being young or brave or defying the odds.
Casablanca is not that. Everyone in that movie has back pain and they have all just accepted it.

2 photographs of a biography of Marty Feldman. One has googly eyes added but it looks virtually the same.
Every time we see this Marty Feldman book it reminds us of that time we stuck googly eyes on it but all that happened was it looked even more like Marty Feldman. π

Telephone sales job. All the bosses were away for the day. Workers outside accidentally drilled through the power & phone lines & say it'll be tomorrow before they're fixed. I'm putting on my coat to go home when my colleagues say this is a great chance to brainstorm sales ideas ALL DAY.

Iran: look, it's simple. We literally just paint the silhouette of a plane on the ground. We literally just nail together some boxes in the shape of a tank. We literally just pull looney tunes shit. Their AI will make them spend $100 million to destroy $5 of arts and crafts.

So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and theyβre simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was βyour piano is too close to the fireplace, youβll dry it outβ and if thatβs not the internet in a nutshell I donβt know what is.

Listen app devs, nobody wants to use your in-app browser. We don't care that it's "powered by Chrome", if I click a link just let it open in default browser. Our cookies and cached info is there, you're actively hindering our experience, and making us less likely to use your app.

Tate was trying to get to Dubai on a bus.
When they got to the Saudi border everyone was told to get off for passport and baggage checks and Tate decided to stay on - presumably because the bus was air conditioned and he didn't want to stand in a queue.
He then got detained by Saudi guards.

Saw the "OMG why are 40 & 50 year old people even ON social media?" post & my first thought was, "What do you think *should* happen, kid? Should we all just do a Logan's Run?" & then I realized this child has never once in their life heard of Logan's Run & I turned to dust & my ghost is typing this.

My ICQ UIN is 7231680. That number is burned into my consciousness. I inadvertently learned that you could see private conversations in public chat rooms when using Telnet instead of a browser on GeoCities. I can tell you the difference in audible dial-up handshakes between 1200, 2400, 14.4 kbps modems. I needed a edu email address to join Facebook after my university was admitted. We were here at the beginning. We made social media. You wouldn't be in my Top 8. I have usernames older than you.

Apart from its countless other pleasures, I, a professional screenwriter, will never figure out how you write something with a plot hole the size of the Lincoln Tunnel & it just doesn't matter, nobody cares, maybe you notice it but then you forget, the movie is just that good

I recall travelling on a bus in Cornwall many years ago that only ran on market day. The driver knew all the passengers and on the return journey he didn't leave at the set time but when all his passengers were on board, and he didn't stop at bus stops but dropped them all off at their homes.
