THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
Yeah, I thought Val did a great job on these.
A photo of my personal, bagged & boarded copies of issues #5 & #6 of the 1976 Marvel magazine Marvel Preview, featuring an adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes story βThe Hound of the Baskervilles.β Both covers feature Ken Barr paintings, with #5 showing Sherlock being pounced upon by a glowing, snarling Hell Hound, a mansion in the background, and #6 depicting Holmes & Watson standing over a womanβs body, a snarling beast with flaming eyes looming ominously in the sky behind them.
A long time coming, but I finally managed to procure (in the wild) both Sherlock Holmes issues of Marvel Preview for an uninterrupted and sublime reading experience.
It was worth the wait.
I thought they were glorious.
So glad publications like this still exist, thoughtful passion projects that celebrate our comic book obsessions. Thanks to Colin Blanchette & the rest of the Canon crew for thinking of COPRA. Itβs an honor to breathe the same oxygen as some of my favorites. (gunning for your top spot tho, Watchmen)
So damn good.
I think it holds up incredibly well.
Yeah, I just love the skill involved in creating that much depth.

WOW. What an opening panel.
Consumption's back on the menu, boys!
Who could have seen this coming?
Thatβs good enough for me!
π
At first glance, I thought those were Huckleberry Hound handcuffs.
Thatβs always fun. π
Feel better soon, sir.

That would be awesome.
As long as they didnβt fuck it up.
Lol.
In an alternate universe this was James Gunnβs first Marvel Studios project, rather than GOTG.
That wouldβve been pretty sweet too.
From the pilot of "Head Lopper", animated by Project Studio Q (Japan) for an aborted series project based on the comics by Andrew MacLean (USA).

I still read pocket paperbacks. Just took a couple Asimovs with me the Paris last month in fact. I've ALWAYS been a paperback reader. A thousand Peanuts PBs when I was young, then on to Mad ones, then Doc Savage, then Conan and Bradbury, then Tolkien and Asimov and Dick, on and on. All in paperback.
A reminder that fake voter fraud and false claims of election rigging were always the plan. Hereβs a direct message from Assange to Don Jr way back in 2016.
Those are some sweet Defenders issues. Enjoy.
Iβm a fan of previous volumes, and I couldnβt resist that Joe Jusko cover.
Very high hopes for this.
I shouldβve maybe waited til the second cup. π
A+ State of the Union counterprogramming by TCM.
Glorious.
I listened to it during my first cup of coffeeβ¦ and now Iβm a little creeped out. Sweet track.
The first single from our new album is streaming on your favorite service today! youtu.be/32HdGnVC34c?...
Iβll never forget this cover/issue.
Itβs an antique store find that I came upon many years ago while on vacation. One of those stores that has almost no comics (AND it wasnβt outrageously priced) in a little town called Bisbee, AZ.
Prisoners of the Tiny Universe - Two men peer out the portholes of their spaceship and see two tiny humans floating in space.
Fantastic splash page by Nick Cardy from House of Mystery no. 76 (July 1958). Lots of great art in these comics by a wide variety of artists. Cardy is one of my favorites.
