Hell's Angels by Hunter S. Thompson
Maybe should have been my first Thompson read but actually really enjoyed coming back to read him before he became him.

Orbital by Samantha Harvey
A plotless 24-hours on the international space station which is delivered in real time. One fairly beautiful chapter about how small we are, which is useful if you never smoked weed at night under the stars as a teenager.

How the Dead Live by Will Self
Didn't realise until after finishing this how many autobiographical themes there are in it. At least he's brought something interesting to the table.

Before and after: 16/09/2025
Made a start on this in Jan, but this week I've assembled and finished this new window for the barn.
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
A modern classic that's long been on my list. I wasn't ready for how funny and farcical it is. A combination of it being long, chaotic and harvest time meant that it took a while.

Before and After: 07/09/2025
Summer's gone, so new tyres all round for the buggy.

Before and After: 31/08/2025
Wheels and lifting mechanism on this A Jones sack lifter were all ceased. No freed and wire brushed ready for painting up.
Before and After: 30/08/2025
Picked up some random bargains form and online auction. Highlights include a pillar drill for Β£17 and a bottle holder for the lamb orphanage for Β£5.
+111 round bale hay snatched up this week. Drying conditions far from ideal.
Lights Out in Wonder Land by DBC Pierre
Pierre is genuinely getting at something and has some really great moments. But there's also a flimsiness to the plot and infuriating footnotes that I just ignored in the end.

Kobbie and I knocked down a little piece for hay. It's going to be a grassy week, with silage on the cards too.
Hard To Be a God by Arkady & Boris Strugatsky
The Strugatsky bros are a big deal, but I think they're more popular in general than they are with me. There're good ideas in this book, but the afterword demonstrates it could've been pretty inconsequential.

Deadeye Dick by Kurt Vonnegut
Always enjoy Vonnegut. Read Breakfast of Champions before reading this, only 3/5 if you don't.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Like an incredibly longed out Animal Farm but a well-groomed alpaca does a podcast at the end to tell the piggies why they're naughty.

Giving some permanent pasture and the Zetor Crystal a kick up the arse.
Finished glazing the new greenhouse. Brought a digger to help with the earthwork.
The last bottle lamb went out today. I can have an early night tonight π₯²
The Beach by Alex Garland
Just when you think it's not going to go all Lord of the Flies, it goes pretty Lord of the Flies, but with weed.

Reseed completed π±
That's a great way to contribute! Lambs are very cute.
Kobbie finding a way to cope with tillage...
Lambing is officially over!
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John le CarrΓ©
Espionage. Declining empire. Men call each other 'Old Boy'. There are actually 9 of these books and this is the first of a trilogy within the 9. Lots more to get into...

Spring oats very much in.
New lamb this morning! π
Big weekend: 22/02/2025
Six sheep lambing over five days takes us over the mid-point of lambing our tiny flock. Now expecting a small gap before the first-time-lambers get going.
Before and After: 16/02/2025
Fenced off this field corner ready for the man who brings the #bees π
Can't wait to see how Dig get on on Dragons' Den tonight. Been doing a lot to their website this week: www.digclub.co.uk/blog/dig-gar...
Big weekend: 08/02/2025
Hedge wood cleared and cow sheds cleaned out and spread.
