I went back to find this post, because it was several years ago that I first experienced the supposed "new" evangelicals, and it was not a good experience.
I am disheartened they stayed on the same path and caused more harm.
Turning my attention to a theology of conflict, especially war, in the coming months.
I've started my reading here:

If you have recommended resources, send them my way, please.
Certainly a worthwhile read.
If you think the way the most powerful men treat their partners and families isnβt important, youβve already fallen for their manipulation. The violence at home is part and parcel of their abuse of power

In case you've never seen it, here's a way of understanding unethical and destructive leadership. It is known as the toxic triangle.
These things seem like they are connected.

This deserves a repost in case you missed it the first time, or even if you didn't. Just plain old good basic stuff that we no longer can take for granted. @bobstevenson.bsky.social

The Atlantic's latest cover story is out now and it is fascinating. @yappelbaum.bsky.social on why Americans stopped movingβand why that's a much bigger deal than you might realize: www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

Friends, I got to interview @latashamorrison.bsky.social about her book. I enjoyed the conversation, and I hope you'll give it a listen:

Composure, Saints! This is a vital witness to our faith in Christ in any era of chaos.
Upon waking, let us meet with Jesus and trade our fear & anger for his courage & compassion.
Rely on God.
Read Scripture.
Be brave.
Pray valiantly.
Act like grownups.
Help the hurting.
Love defiantly.
I just learned there's a "Mom's For Liberty" and a "Mom's For Liberties." It is worth knowing the difference:

Part of the issue is that those people don't believe the vaccine actually did anything to vaccinate against covid. They don't believe it was possible for someone to create a vaccine that quickly, and some don't believe vaccines are necessary. They probably think NIH is corrupt or some other nonsense
The lack of critical thinking in evangelical Christianity is increasingly startling. There are large pockets of people who have fused to a specific, cynical (nihilistic?) narrative and interpret everything through that lens.
Lord, have mercy.
This is worth reading.

Do the people in the pews have any idea where their βmissionsβ offerings go?
I reported it to Bluesky. Hopefully they can get it taken down
All of them. See, the thing is, there's ample water, and I really like shiny things.
But, seriously, I saw more car washes being built in Castle Rock, and it is perplexing.
Agreed. It is so utterly perplexing that this many people believe the conman is better to lead the country. Certainly racism and misogyny played a significant role in the outcome of the election. 2016 and 2024, especially 2024 because we KNEW who he was, dishearten me when I think about them.
"To live no tight, neat role is truly sacrificial, it is also truly creative because it leaves us open and free (dare we say) like God himself." - Alan Jones, former dean of the Cathedral of San Francisco
Coming to the table where Christ is the host is hospitality at its most complete, receiving the Christ and the entire creation and community of Christ and Thanksgiving. When we leave that table, any table, we are blessed, predisposed to engage in a hospitable life."
- Eugene Peterson, The Pastor
Gathering friends and family to the table for a meal is our most frequent act of hospitality.
"Is it possible to live in this increasingly inhospitable world in a hospitable way? Is it possible to do something focused and intentional about what is wrong in our society without turning the wrongdoers into the enemy?
"This is what God's kingdom is like: a bunch of outcasts and oddballs gathered at a table, not because they are rich or worthy or good, but because they are hungry, because they said yes. And there's always room for more." - Rachel Held Evans, Searching for Sunday
