That was the insidious thing about X-Files - took one of these crackpot conspiracy theory white guys AND MADE HIM RIGHT.

The book is better. It’s not perfect, but there is more room for the subplots and side stories that allow the characters to develop.

The film shorthands all of that, and suffers for it.

If you’re trying to finish a school assignment, that works, but then you’re still unemployable!

I have rather the opposite problem, as IT security prevents me from integrating my work calendar and email with anything else.

It’s a conundrum - using AI gets students to an intermediate level of proficiency immediately but they don’t develop the skills to evaluate AI output (or even get to the intermediate level without AI assistance) let alone do more than the AI can.

How, in the face of AI hype, do I teach this?

15.02.2026 23:14 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It's no surprise that I've given AI a go - not least because I'm grappling with how it's affecting students.

I've found the effort of rewriting and checking the output of LLMs means I'm saving no time. I'm better off with a search engine or a database and my own writing skills.

Getting off US tech: a guide I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

cheking out the options listed here - realistically I'm kinda locked in to the systems that my work uses, so I doubt I'll move much, but you might find this useful

Watched a bit of the first episode of Asterix - and remembered that the names are different in French, because of course they are (and the jokes are different).

Switched to the English dub and then remembered why I dislike dubs (even good ones, which this is).
