US investigation points to likely US responsibility in Iran school strike, sources say
So the fact that we bombed a girls elementary school, while likely using AI for targeting, is going to be a major headline story dominating American news coverage when exactly?
βNo front-page stories in NYT, WSJ, WaPo. No mention on NBC and CBS Sunday Shows. No stand alone segments on Evening News shows. A death count on par with the OKC bombing is relegated to the back page.β www.columnblog.com/p/corporate-...
Odds that we will learn that βClaudeβ was responsible for US munitions destroying a girlβs school in Iran, killing more than 100 innocent civilians?

So now China is moving to mediate and try to end the war between the US and Iranβ¦.and if successful, US influence and prestige in the Middle East will further erode. The strategic consequences of this war will reverberate for decades.
Very droll.
It would be nice if the Senate and House Leadership could replicate Mansfieldβs approach β a quiet outreach to the White House to help Trump find a way to end this disastrous war before it consumes even more innocent lives and exhausts our nationβs scant reserves of military and economic power.
When counseling three presidents (JFK, LBJ, and Nixon) against the Vietnam War, Mike Mansfield argued that our war aims were muddy, our methods ill-suited to the tasks, our assessment of our adversary hopelessly naive and patronizing, and thus, our effort doomed to fail. He didnβt grandstand, though
Biggest losers in this war:
Iranian peopleβall the innocent victims, all those who had labored for peaceful political change, all those opposed to oligarchy and religious rule. We have erased decades of effort.
Israeli βgainsβ here are essentially short-termβ¦a depleted and weakened Iranian military. But strategically, this war is a big loser for Israel. US people are more mistrustful, neighbors more resentful, and Iranian proxies in Lebanon and elsewhere (global threat) can and will inflict damage.
Big losers in this war:
USA β alliances weakened, global respect undermined, economic hit, lives, treasure, military capacity squandered, and a new generation of Iranians who will hate us with a passion for decades.
Israel β Israel wonβt get regime changeβ¦will reinforce a blood feud.
Big winners in this war;
Russia β further deepens NATO divisions, depletes vital air defense stockpiles, consumes resources, and distracts attention;
China β all of above, plus erodes global norms, establishes precedent for regime change attack on Taiwan, if deemed necessary (by Beijing).
UK sub sank the Belgrano. Not a U.S. sub.

Matters of war and peace demand sober, diligent, comprehensive analysis and debate. Would be nice to see evidence of that.
Soβ¦USA will escort tankers taking oil to China and insure it against loss? Good deal for Beijing!

I lived and worked in #Pakistan during some times of pretty high tension. I did a significant bit of my anthropological fieldwork in #Karachi.
β¦οΈThroughout this period-- nearly 20 years-- the Karachi consulate (when open) never came close to being stormed.
This should be front-page news.
It's a big deal for a US consulate to be stormed.
It's huge deal for US Marines to open fire at an overseas post. Perimeter security is the responsibility of host-nation police: Marines at Post One are intended to serve as last fallback.
#Pakistan is a Major Non-NATO Ally.
This is a BFD..
What, exactly is a "politically correct" war?
One in which the Commander-in-Chief refrains from telling off-color jokes?
Or one in which he doesn't bomb girls' schools?
Got it:
β¦οΈIsrael was going to launch an unprovoked attack on #Iran.
...and if they did, we figured Iran might retaliate against US forces in the region...
...and that's why we attacked Iran before any of this could happen, just in case...
...So it was all just self-defense.
Issues of war and peace should not be decided by emotions or personal grievances.
Seems a bit lateβ¦..since no flights are available in many locations. I would suggest sheltering in place. Airports are going to be targets for both missiles and terrorists.
