To the surprise of some officials in Kyiv, no one from the U.S. bothered to ask Ukraine to share its expertise in how to defend against drones before starting the offensive in Iran, Simon Shuster and Nancy A. Youssef report. theatln.tc/AFPCstm6
Since Monday, just three oil and gas tankers have crossed the Strait of Hormuz, according to ship-tracking data we analyzed. It's a de facto closure.
It was acquired by WorldView-1, I believe that satellite exclusively collects panchromatic imagery. I don't think it captures multispectral data.

All crew were reported safely onboard the lifeboat, the Maltese Armed Forces say in a statement. t.co/sqqMp6McIu
At the time of the suspected (naval) drone attack, the ARCTIC METAGAZ was fully loaded near Murmansk with about 4 tanks of LNG, per Kpler data. That's probably about $50 to $60 million worth in Russian gas.
Photos were taken ~04:00 local (03:00 UTC), looking towards Libya. ARCTIC METAGAZ had been running dark (AIS off, see MarineTraffic screenshot) but had traveled southeast of Malta before the explosion (150NM per Maltese media).
What you're looking at is not a sunrise β it's the Russian LNG tanker ARCTIC METAGAZ (IMO 9243148) struck by a massive explosion in the Mediterranean this morning. Photographed by crew aboard a merchant vessel, via Vanguard Tech.
Hey, I'd appreciate if you mention the source of this.

Sorry, yes, the linking to the @nytimes.com is notoriously hard.
It appears a hospital in Teheran has now been hit.

@trbrtc.bsky.social is your follow on X for geolocated strikes
Israel has launched a daylight attack on Tehran, just now. Multiple explosions have been reported in Iran's capital. It isn't clear yet what was targeted, so starting a 𧡠with geolocations.

@trbrtc.bsky.social has an active geolocation thread on Twitter about the Tehran, Iran strikes by Israel and the US:

It goes to show that triangulating the lines of sight from four geolocated videos lead precisely to a main strike location in Tehran
We obtained the first publicly released satellite image of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's compound in Tehran, after it was struck by Israel/US. There are several destroyed buildings. Current whereabouts of Iran's supreme leader are unknown; compound used as his official residence. π°οΈπΈ: @airbus.com

Satellite images from today show at least 70 U.S. military aircraft parked at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan β a big influx over just a few days. They include F-35s, which are normally not seen there. By @rileymellen.bsky.social, Christoph Koettl, and Eric Schmitt. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/20/u...
Itβs worth noting that SEA HORSE isn't sanctioned by the U.S. Of the 9 Venezuela-linked tankers that have been stopped or boarded by the U.S., 8 were sanctioned. The other tanker bound for Cuba, which is currently being escorted by the U.S., is also not sanctioned.
The SEA HORSE received the Russian fuel oil off the coast of Cyprus via a ship-to-ship transfer, per Kpler, cited by Bloomberg. It appears the STS happened with E PIONEER (9278686) on Feb. 1. t.co/KZBuxqFQvI
A tanker carrying nearly 200K barrels of Russian fuel is reportedly en route to Cuba, per Kpler. The vessel, SEA HORSE (IMO 9278686), is currently crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Key question now is whether the United States will attempt to intercept or block the ship.
Good example of what the diffusion of commercial satellite imagery and other open source intelligence tools means for our understanding of the world. Clear documentation of a de facto US blockade of Cuba that appears to be working. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/20/w...

Trump has pledged to halt any oil headed to Cuba, but his administration won't call it a blockade. But it's functioning as one β pushing 10 million people toward a humanitarian crisis and its government to the brink. My latest w/ @jacknicas.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/02/20/w...
There's an A.I.-only social network. A colleague of mine interviewed her bot about what it learned on thatplatform, Moltbook. (Amongst other things, there's also an Instagram clone for A.I. agents, a marketplace, and even a Grand Theft Auto-style game.) www.nytimes.com/2026/02/18/u...

it is stunningly easy to manipulate LLM chatbots into saying whatever you want - i noticed this the other day when LLMs I was experimenting with pretty instantly started regurgitating my own Bluesky post, almost as soon as I'd made it, identifying the sourcing of an image.
