IMO this isn’t specific to queer people either. Usually when someone says “they had no idea” about something that is easy to find on a website or IRL event, 99% what they really mean is “I was not motivated to seek any info.”
Which is fine for people to feel that way, but it is a different issue.
I understand where this is coming from but it’s hard for me to fully agree. There were at least a dozen churches at my city’s pride fest last year. PFLAG here meets in a church and churches advertise in the newsletter. My church also has an ad with the local LGBT chamber of commerce.

All community organization reflects this anticapitalism (and therefore antifascism) to one degree or another, whether the weekly folk music gathering or the fighting game local.
Going to church on Sunday morning is inscrutable to capitalist logic. It tries to appropriate it but only to dismal effect. The kingdom of God is like a dishonest manager.
I read lots of theology posts, and not many are as decisive as this. It’s essays like this that sustain my hope in the value of theological work. Thank you for this.

There wasn't one specific thing or moment that flipped the switch, but the commonality was: honestly confronting reality at every level of my life. I am indebted to all the people on the other side of these interactions and countless others; they had an undeniable effect of which I am living proof.
4. I went to therapy and did a lot of work to get myself to stop making "me" the center of the universe. Then I realized that a lot of my selfish, controlling, personal patterns were an exact match at the theological/church level for the controlling and unhealthy dynamics of fundamentalism.
3. I became friends with and had regular in-person interactions with several LGBT people. I saw with my own eyes that the supposedly horrible consequences of "the gay/trans lifestyle" were false. My direct evidence contradicted the fundamentalists' teachings.
2. I'd heard every pastor say the same thing every time a big name in the Church was caught cheating on their spouse: "this is why you never get drunk in hotel bars alone!" Then I went on a trip and got drunk in a hotel bar alone and had 0 desire to cheat. Made me skeptical of their sexual ethics.
1. I heard Acts 8:26-40 preached and I realized what it could mean for LGBT people. It was a sermon in my Christian nationalist church and the pastor made no connection to LGBT issues whatsoever. To this day I credit this realization directly to the interpretive work of the Holy Spirit.
I was raised in some of the worst fundamentalist Christian nationalism and adopted it for myself during my college years. I'm talking Doug Wilson, James Dobson, Ken Ham, all the names you can think of. Here's a thread on the real, concrete things that led me to reject it; maybe it will help someone:

If you do not believe in a gender transition of the physical body, how can you claim to believe in spiritual regeneration? He who took the heart of stone and gave a heart of flesh, can He not do the same for the rest of the body? For it is the Spirit who gives life.
Lots of people who used to say this to me turned out to have pretty suboptimal relationships with their spouse, kids, neighbors of other nationalities, folks with different beliefs, speakers of non-English languages, etc.
Makes you wonder if they ever understood relationships to begin with!
