This was 1+yr ago so I'm sure the capabilities are much better, but given the code... the models were unable to understand the world (e.g. 'is the garden north or south of the foyer?'), but WERE able to provide solutions. Possible it was latent space knowledge; I wanted to try with original games.
Right. One way or another the world and the LLM have to be speaking the same language. I think there are different ways of doing this -- from the "outside" or the "inside"... I should probably do more work on this, but I was doing some tests awhile ago in getting LLMs to solve IFs using inform code.

I still think the design solutions are out there, but in effect require building a game around the LLM to contain it, which the player then interacts through.

Really terrific story. Reminds me of when a 12yo player of our SimCityEDU variant said "this is the first game I've played that made me feel like my decisions matter." Gutting. We really underestimate how modern systems drain agency from life, education.

There's been a lot in the news about "AI eliminating entry level positions". At this phase of the tech, new grads should be top hires. Companies eliminating entry level jobs are cutting themselves off at the knees.

Hardly a prediction since it's so iron clad from history, but: all this "AI is eliminating entry positions": the epitome of foolishness.
It is gen x's equivalent of "computers will never go anywhere". It's not AI eliminating those positions. It's 45yo bosses. & the kids will invent the future.

Fire Horse women are "stubborn and violent" because of an Edo-period legend about a woman who tried to burn down Tokyo so she could see her boyfriend.
Her story is tragic, but it's interesting to me that the Fire Horse has flavors of women's power directed toward men.
