Seems like it should be a big deal that the president is either too racist to distinguish between different non-white people or too lazy/is sundowning too much to keep basic facts straight in his head.

But hey, I guess when you’re not a Democrat during a dumb debate it doesn’t matter.

Wild Turkey 101 is about $25. Fantastic value for a really solid bourbon.

There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.

Wondering if the media would've chosen "honored" as the verb if Obama had saluted fallen soldiers in a fucking baseball cap

Yep and we’re far enough away from when white flight, redlining, etc. started that people can more easily delude themselves into thinking the city wasn’t the thing that made everything else possible.

One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.

Lots of folks cling to the idea that this comes down to Biden's inability to "sell" these accomplishments. I'm sorry, though, that's pure cope. Whiny resentfulness toward Dems & cities is *constitutive* of the RW worldview today, not something that can be turned on & off with policy.

Whenever I say we should return to 1940-1980 tax levels for the super wealthy (billionaires) of 91%+ marginal tax I hear, "If you do that, billionaires will leave the USA."

To which I say:
1. Promise? Because it didn't happen last time.
2. Don't threaten me with a good time.

This neatly encapsulates The Dipshit Paradox:

Any ignorance creating sufficiently damaging effects will become indistinguishable from malice. Any sufficiently damaging malice will be abetted by ignorance. We must never exonerate malice simply because it can easily be explained by stupidity.

I would argue they knew exactly what they were doing, which was deliberately sabotaging needed public works programs by offering snake oil they never had any intention of delivering.

Me: I don't really care for collapsing down the reasons why Trump does something like start a war with Iran to material interests. It ignores the fact that he's a terrible person with zero discipline who finds joy in murdering non-white people.

WH: see comment below

Me: goddamnit, ok but still...

this is a big part of it. ppl like grim fantasize about red brown crossover, in no small part because they like the idea of a left that doesn't rely on women or people of color.

Chlorine dioxide is an industrial bleach for lumber and freaks like RFK give autistic kids enemas with it. Kids die from the practice. These people just want autistic kids dead.

The media often treats Trump like some sort of Zelig-like character, a mere bystander in his own administration w/no agency or ability to shape decisions. It's really infuriating considering Biden and Obama were both expected to own everything going on in the country all the time.

Let’s talk about Graham Platner’s Big Lie, finally. In 2009, at the height of the Gulf War, the Marines barred him from active duty. Platner claims it was his forearm tattoos. But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/

Funny how I've been assured all my life, by both parties, that the military was filled with heroes of the utmost moral character and tactical abilities and every time the worst person to ever occupy the presidency has asked them to do awful things they've done so with seemingly little pushback.

I ask again, did ANYONE in the upper echelon of our national security, military, or diplomatic corps give ANY thought to what would happen if we attacked Iran?

I’ve spent years, decades, obsessing over the Bush Administration’s Iraq WMD lies, writing about them, debunking them.

I can think of no lie about Iraq WMDs told by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al that comes even close to the enormity and absurdity of this lie from Donald Trump.

Youngest is home with the flu (after the oldest had been home with the flu last week) and of all the hundreds of dollars worth of toys around the house he's playing with...the clothes hampers...again. The amount of time spent playing with toys vs. playing with non-toys has to be close to 50/50.
