More layoffs at Valnet. They could use representation, I bet.

With GDC only a few days away, I added @nicolecarpenter.bsky.social's brilliant gaming union zine/explainer to archive.org. The previous host for the PDF added a monthly subscription.
Please feel free to print and share as you wish!
This was literally my purpose at the last gig. And that paid function no longer exists.
Coal miner slash punch press operator. And a print-making local journalist.
i really wish pr stopped making press do things with content creators/influencers. two different perspectives going for different things shouldn't be treated as the same, the functions we serve are different.

Gang, the samples that we receive as journalists are not a profit center. If I can't donate product I've used to do my work, or if I can't warehouse it, I don't get to make money on it. That's not how this works. If you're doing that and consider yourself a member of the media... please don't.
It's not. Sorry. Back to my cave.
Professor @sarasilverstein.bsky.social is someone to whom I listen on issues of health and history. This essay helps us to situate the present American health drama in the history of health care, and thereby to see much more clearly what we face.

Head and shoulders image of a white haired man with a white goatee looking off into the distance to the right. Some buildings and a bit of water are visible behind him. Ryan Dancey, former COO of Alderac Entertainment Group.
Text from a LinkedIn post which says: Ryan Dancey Author Chief Operating Officer at Alderac Entertainment Group I have zero reason to believe that an AI couldn't "come up with Tiny Towns or Flip Seven or Cubitos". I can prompt any of several AIs RIGHT NOW and get ideas for games as good as those. The gaming industry doesn't exist because humans create otherwise unobtainable ideas. It exists because many many previous games exist, feed into the minds of designers, who produce new variants on those themes. People then apply risk capital against those ideas to see if there's a product market fit. Sometimes there is, and sometimes there is not. (In fact, much more often than not). Extremely occasionally (twice in my lifetime: D&D and Magic: the Gathering) a human has produced an all new form of gaming entertainment. Those moments are so rare and incandescent that they echo across decades. Game publishing isn't an industry of unique special ideas. It's an industry about execution, marketing, and attention to detail. All things AIs are great at.
Ryan Dancey, a more than 30-year veteran of the tabletop gaming industry, has lost his COO job at publisher AEG a day after saying AI could generate game ideas as good as his companyβs titles Tiny Towns and Cubitos:

I'm not a games journalist. I'm a podcaster. The way I want to preserve these little pieces of gamers' memories is this show and I'm feeling so fulfilled by it right now.
Folks seem to like it. If you haven't given it a shot, search for "Last Save Lounge" wherever you get your podcasts.
Ah, come on Gen Con... 'When searching for a downtown hotel room, Thursday through Sunday does not meet the new four-night minimum stay requirements. Make sure to include Wednesday, and make your 2026 Gen Con the best one yet!'

Definitely had an βIn Case of Emergencyβ boot floppy ticky-tacked to my dorm wall.
My good friend @turbohoodie.com invited me onto his new podcast, Last Save Lounge, and it's got such a good vibe. I can't thank you enough for the chance to chat, Aaron. After all that's happened in the last year it was good to talk about stuff that brings me so much joy.
So much for that empty day to catch up on freelance work. Harumph.

Emptying the office and turning junk into new backpacking gear. Let's see if this fits.
I feel this. It's so hard to remain immersed in a space that is so broad, so multifaceted. Tabletop feels exactly the same way.
