Frederick Wiseman was one of the only true documentarians. A scope and an obsession and an intricate rigor and articulating the mechanisms of culture and society in ways that would make a lesser filmmaker shit their pants. An absolute titan. Rest in peace.
Yearly family day LOTR rewatch and one thing I'm struck by on viewing god-knows-how-many-times is how, in a series where everyones committed to the bit, Bernard Hill still somehow puts the whole thing on his back in terms of pure sincerity. These movies would break with another actor in that role.
