Tony Albrecht presenting in a lecture theatre. The slide says "We are not Paragons of Reason" and has an image of the book "Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman.
A slide with the text "And you will read this last. You will read this first. And then you will read this. Then this one." The formatting of the text leads sighted readers to read the text in the intended order.
The other highlight of #DDDAdelaide for me was @tonyalbrecht.bsky.social speaking about cognitive biases (and telling people to read the excellent Thinking, Fast and Slow). Hopefully the GCAP 2024 version of the talk will be uploaded to youtube in the near future.
Writing the alt text for these images has me wondering about the future of image accessibility - where are we going to land between hand-authored, pre-generated using machine learning, and on-the-fly generation by screen readers, browsers, etc?
Larene Le Gassick presenting in a lecture theatre. The slide says "For better or worse, the people who design the touchpoints of society determine who can participate and who's left out. Often unwittingly". It is a quote from Mismatch by Kat Holmes
Larene Le Gassick presenting in a lecture theatre. The slide says "we, the designers of the web, decide who is welcome"
Excellent talk by @larene.dev to kick off #DDDAdelaide yesterday about accessibility on and off the web. Reminded me of how interesting I found that work when I was in FE.
