Just debating Alberta separatism is causing economic damage to our province and to Canada.
This reckless harm is irreversible.

Local man being paid to sit on sidelines for past eleven years says people should do things.
Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.
Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.
We live in Orwellian times.
As someone who grew up during the entire Vietnam War... #fuckwar
So…
We’re spending 2.3 billion to replicate the services that were built into our former integrated system because Dani was committed to disintegrating it?

"Canada’s oil industry might not be great at building pipelines, but it has become expert at creating scapegoats for its failures and PR nightmares for even modest proposals to pay for its own pollution."
My latest: Naheed Nenshi has been a monumental disappointment as Alberta NDP leader — and it could actually get worse from here. #abpoli #cdnpoli

“Smith said Friday that her government doesn’t keep track of the breakdown of types of immigrants coming to Alberta, nor how many international immigrants would be affected should a referendum vote be held as binding.”

Agreed, unequivocally. I was saddened when she stepped aside in the leadership race.
Rakhi Pancholi made it very clear today…
She believes that Smith’s rhetoric is absolutely fueling racism and bigotry in Alberta and called out her failure to condemn Bruce McAllisters recent bigoted comments.

Remember, Auditor General Doug Wylie's term ends April 28. Will he have enough time to properly investigate and complete his report? This is where the RCMP's progress, or lack thereof, on its criminal investigation becomes important.
Audrey Macklin is an immigration scholar at the University of Toronto faculty of law, where she is also the Rebecca Cook chair in human rights law. Populist politicians in Canada have used immigration, and established immigrants willing to criticize new immigrants, as a tool of deflection for more than 100 years, she said. “Anti-immigration is always a cheap and available tactic for populist governments,” said Macklin, who was born and raised in Edmonton and took her first degree at the University of Alberta. “It is an easy way to blame some other people for the challenges that are faced at any given moment,” she added, but particularly when a government is facing financial challenges due to such variables as the structural changes in the global economy.
Danielle Smith's referendum announcement on immigration represents the pre-determined end goal of the Alberta Next Panel.

Several things can be true:
1) CityNews's slant on this story was sensationalist.
2) The minister could have gone on record months ago re Cdn unity.
3) The separatists do not "own" the Alberta flag as a symbol.
4) The Alberta government doesn't get to dictate how an independent press frames stories.
Danielle Smith's UCP government continues to attack democratic rights.
Judicial independence. Right to strike. Now freedom of the press.
These aren't rights held by judges, teachers, or journalists.
They are Albertans' rights to justice, fair labour, and government accountability.
To prebunk what we can expect to hear tomorrow:
🔴 Immigrants pay provincial taxes.
🔴 Many non-immigrants don't.
Cutting off immigrants' access to public services isn't about protecting taxpayers.
It's about picking and choosing who is worthy of healthcare and education.
For years, people have said Canada's brand of right-wing populism was unique in lacking a xenophobic, anti-immigrant strain.
Anyone still under that illusion should watch premier Smith's speech to Albertans tomorrow.
"We inherited a situation where our budget is over reliant on resource revenues."
The UCP has been in power since 2019. At some point you're going to have to take responsibility for the decisions your party has made.
Oh fun!
The UCP’s latest push poll/survey comes with an email when you’re done, complete with an attack on the media!
What’s that a sign of again?

Conservatives spent over a decade feeding the insatiable appetite in Alberta for anger and alienation towards Ottawa.
Now, like Jason Kenney, they need to step up and slay the beast they helped create before it does even more damage. #cdnpoli #abpoli

First instinct: what now?!? (I have no idea what he’s said.)
Then I decided two things:
1) I don’t want to give him any oxygen.
2) I have enough other things to worry about.
