A panel from dungeon meshi that changed my life
A muted-blue halfbody illustration of a male character, Eden, long white hair wild around him and centered by two columns, surrounded by chrysanthemums. He looks blankly upward, half of his face completely white and dripping down to pool into loosely cupped hands, then falling further as "dust". He wears loose, draping fabrics and shining gold jewelry accents. A red string cuts through the lower half, circling around his wrist.
Oh Lord, return me to dust โฆ

i'm two days behind my personal deadline for this new article, but man, i am so excited for how it's gonna turn out. if it takes a bit longer to do it right, then that's what it takes
i will not redraw every panel
I will not redraw every page
this would only drain my energy
already drained by stress and age

Some comic pages from my fairytale-horror comic
A character reference sheet of the After Silence fantasy world showing three dryad designs by Hatwolf, 2025. Each dryad is humanoid but made of wood and plant elements, with glowing cores in their chests. From left to right: the Emberwood Dryad, with reddish bark, glowing orange cracks, and ember-like light from within; the Wickroot Dryad, dark and slender with bark-like armor and glowing purple eyes and leaves; and the Reed Dryad, tall and willowy with light brown bark, green hair resembling reeds, and orange mushrooms growing along their body. The background is a muted tan with gold borders and text labels beneath each dryad.
Finally managed to work on another piece of concept art for After Silence (aside from all the new dragons!)
This time, here is a full art of three different kinds of treefolk, the Emberwood, the Wickroot and the Reed Dryads. Which one is your favourite?

ursa & genevieve from ladies of the living princess. one woman leaning over another, vaguely late 15th-early 16th c stylings
them
An artwork by Spindle of the characters Asimov (on the left), a half-elf with white hair, sitting on Ottilie's lap (on the right), a human with brown hair. Ottilie is holding Asi's hands and kissing her cheeks, while Asi is smiling widely looking super happy
i bring women kissing to your TL but cute this time
Three girls gather around in the center of the painting as the witch (middle) casts a magical spell in Scarlettโs room (vampire.) The character to her right is Frankensteinโs daughter. The character sitting by the window is a vampire. We see books, pages, drinks, spread across the floor.

it shows how facile and boring genAI is. the most basic "what if a planet was bejeweled".
maybe it works for people who can't process anything but a fully rendered image, but if you have any imagination or curiosity, you'd want something you can look at for longer than a second
Agreed. It's also heartbreaking that the artisans are just nameless 'local artisans', a number given alongside how many glass beads were used.
A photo of a globe embroidered to look like earth, with a grey planet and an orange planet in the background. We see the Americas with different coloured patches, and bright swirly clouds over the sea. I believe the photo belongs to swireproperties.
A genAI render of earth encrusted with jewels. Screenshotted and cropped by me from an instagram video.
A photo of two globes. In the background is a light blue planet with a centered embroidery resembling art of Uranus with the zodiac wheel. Around him are swirls and globes. I believe the photo belongs to swireproperties.

shakeel used genAI for the concept art, and was later able to work with artisans to bring the concept to life.
the original planets look almost like they've been infected with crystal boils, it was the human work that transformed it into something beautiful
A photo of The Jewel System, installation art by Sara Shakeel. Large embroidered globes hand from the ceiling under a black drape. They resemble the planets in our solar system. I believe the photo belongs to swireproperties?
the jewel system by sara shakeels, although i would really like to highlight the beautiful embroideries courtesy of 80 artisans
Altering archive photos is a falsification of history. It's extremely important not to do that.
It's bad enough that I have to put up with retouched behind-the-scenes images (green screen replaced by gray...), but if on top of that they modify details from the past...
so i've spent the morning digging through comic art fans, and man, it's such a neat site!
you can look up a comic you like, and find pictures of preliminary sketches and original art. plus it's so lovely to see people appreciating comic art

quick doodle of three skulls, all done in different ways of drawing lines. it is a comparison of what is the so called 'chicken scratch' and what is not.
since I see it discussed both online and among my students so often, I just wanna say*:
(*this is value neutral, I don't care how you draw your lines)
more or less making fan edits of my own characters #yuri
le creuset mystery boxes are just loot boxes for grown ups
it's such a dishonest move to not mention the genAI integrations in your software when advertising in communities that value human art.
